Can you hire a bodyguard in Monterrey?

Yes, through authorised Mexican companies. Monterrey is not a resort. It is boards, plants and families, and a visiting principal usually sleeps on the San Pedro side, works in Valle Oriente or Apodaca and flies home from across the city. The work is in the movement between them.

Algoz is a protection house that also runs the concierge side: one contact under NDA, from USD 750 per day for one officer on twelve-hour cover. Send your dates and you receive a written proposal with no obligation. If a security driver alone is the honest answer, we say so.

  • Vetted officers working for authorised Mexican companies, under NDA
  • Your arrival met at MTY or on the private side, not at the kerb
  • Details built for San Pedro, Valle Oriente and the Centro
  • Plant days in Apodaca, Pesquería and Santa Catarina, and board days
  • The border leg flown, or the 85D run in daylight, assessed leg by leg
  • One contact in your language, from proposal to departure
Straight Answers

Hiring a bodyguard in Monterrey: what people ask first.

Legality

Is it legal?

Yes, through authorised companies. Under the Federal Private Security Law, providers working across two or more states need federal authorisation, and work inside one state falls to that state. A foreign officer cannot work a detail or carry a weapon in Mexico.

Cost

What it costs

From USD 750 per day for one officer on twelve-hour cover. Drivers and armoured vehicles are separate lines, set out below.

Speed

How fast

We ask for at least seven days. Shorter notice is looked at case by case; under 48 hours carries an urgency fee and is not guaranteed. If your dates touch Pa’l Norte or a Clásico, tell us early.

Weapons

Armed or unarmed

For private security work, armed protection exists in Mexico only through Mexican companies holding a collective firearms licence from the defence ministry. It needs a minimum 30-day lead, may be refused, costs more and is never promised. For most visits a low-profile, well-driven detail is the better answer.

Coverage

Where we cover

San Pedro, Valle Oriente, Chipinque, the Centro and Fundidora, Apodaca, Pesquería, Santa Catarina and Saltillo, then Mexico City and the rest of the country. Mexican officers do not cross the border: Dallas and Houston are a separate team, quoted on their own.

Language

Who you get

Vetted officers with police, military or federal service backgrounds, working in Spanish and English, with female officers for family movement on request. If nobody genuinely fits the brief, we say so.

What We Arrange

Bodyguard services in Monterrey.

Officers

Authorised Mexican officers

Vetted officers working for authorised Mexican companies, NDA-bound and briefed to the Algoz standard. Low profile, and working inside the restaurant or the meeting rather than waiting at the door.

Drivers

Security drivers

Often the first purchase here and sometimes the only one. A trained driver who knows the alternates and when not to stop. See executive transportation and what a security driver costs.

Vehicles

Armoured or soft-skin

Armoured saloons and SUVs from registered providers, specified to the brief rather than by habit and quoted as their own line. An armoured vehicle driven badly protects nobody.

Executive

Plant and board days

Site visits in the industrial parks of Apodaca, Pesquería and Santa Catarina, boards and due diligence in Valle Oriente and San Pedro, with clean movement between hotel, plant and airport.

Family

Families and relocation

The school run, residence assessment on the San Pedro side, household routines, and the nearest private hospital mapped before the first day.

Concierge

Concierge and security

Hotels, tables, aviation handling and private access arranged by the same house that protects you, because the reservation and the route are the same decision.

San Pedro, Valle Oriente & the Chipinque side

San Pedro Garza García is its own municipality, joined to Monterrey by the Puente de la Unidad, with the highest Human Development Index of Nuevo León’s 51 municipalities (0.905, UNDP, 2020). Most visiting principals sleep on this side. Valle Oriente is the hotel and finance corridor: Torre KOI, the Quinta Real, Live Aqua and the Grand Fiesta Americana. KOLI is in Colonia del Valle and Pangea in Valle del Campestre, both with a Michelin star, and Chipinque Ecological Park climbs into the sierra above them. The detail is low profile and built on transitions: the car placed so the pavement is a few steps, the officer inside the restaurant, the table chosen with the exit in mind.

Arriving: MTY, Del Norte & the long first transfer

Monterrey International sits in Apodaca, 28 km north-east of the centre, with nonstops from Dallas, Houston and San Antonio and flights from Madrid and Paris. San Pedro lies on the far side of the city, so the first transfer crosses all of it: the Valle Oriente hotels quote 33 km and 30 to 90 minutes. Private flights can use MTY’s general aviation terminal or Del Norte, also in Apodaca, where Aerolíneas Ejecutivas runs an FBO. The aircraft and its clearance decide which. We meet you inside the terminal or on the private side, with the luggage counted and a vetted car waiting. Our house standard is no hailed taxi and no application on a detail.

Nuevo León, told honestly

The Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas split in early 2010, and the next two years were Monterrey’s worst. On 25 August 2011 gunmen set fire to the Casino Royale over unpaid extortion, and 52 people died. In May 2012, 49 bodies were left on Federal Highway 40 at Cadereyta. The record did not end there: a young woman’s death on the Nuevo Laredo road in General Escobedo became a national case in 2022. Today the United States rates Nuevo León at Level 2, and Canada says to avoid non-essential travel to the state, “excluding the city of Monterrey”; San Pedro, Apodaca and Santa Catarina are separate municipalities it does not name. The UK does not advise against travel to the state, but says to take extreme care outside tourist areas. What a detail can manage is the highway, the routine, and express and virtual kidnapping. We would rather give you the two governments’ words than our own reassurance.

How a Monterrey detail is actually run

It starts with the diary, never with a headcount: a night in San Pedro, a plant in Apodaca, Pesquería or Santa Catarina, a board in Valle Oriente, the flight home. We read the dates, the venues, the profile and the roads, then propose the smallest team that genuinely covers the brief: often a security driver alone, otherwise an officer with a driver, and two vehicles where the profile or the route earns them. Departure times and routes vary through the week, because a predictable diary is the exposure a visitor can actually remove. Relocating families have their own map: the American School Foundation in Santa Catarina, UDEM, TecSalud’s Zambrano Hellion. Everyone is briefed on virtual kidnapping calls, which fail against one number to ring.

Beyond the city: the road north, Saltillo & the sierra

The US border is about 200 km away, on Invest Monterrey’s figure, and this is where we are most careful. The UK advises against all but essential travel to Tamaulipas. Its exceptions include the Nuevo Laredo crossing reached from Monterrey on toll road 85D, in daylight. Canada makes no such exception and advises arriving by air. So we fly the leg to Dallas, Houston or San Antonio where the diary allows. Where the road is the honest answer, the 85D is planned for daylight with an alternate agreed, leg by leg. Reynosa and McAllen we treat as a flown leg only, and travel against official advice can invalidate your insurance. The toll road to Saltillo, in Coahuila, is interstate work for a federally authorised company. La Huasteca and Cola de Caballo are the weekend sierra, driven by day.

The calendar: Pa’l Norte, the Clásico & the weather

Pa’l Norte returns on 26, 27 and 28 March 2027, the organiser’s published dates, inside Holy Week; past editions were held at Parque Fundidora. The Clásico Regiomontano between Monterrey and Tigres comes round in each short tournament, at Estadio BBVA in Guadalupe, which hosted four World Cup matches in 2026, or at El Volcán in San Nicolás. The route to the car matters as much as the seat. The weather plans the day too: August afternoons average 36 degrees and September is the wettest month, yet the two worst recent floods came in June and July. Alex in 2010 left 588 mm at Arroyo Seco in San Pedro by the morning of 1 July, and Alberto in 2024 washed out part of the road to Saltillo.

Pa’l Norte and Holy Week

The organiser’s published dates, inside Holy Week. Past editions were at Parque Fundidora, so hotels, entrances and the car are planned around it.

May to September

Heat and rain

The hottest and wettest stretch of the year. Long site days start early, and low crossings are checked against the forecast.

July to May

Liga MX and the Clásico

The Apertura runs July to December and the Clausura January to May, with the derby in each, at Estadio BBVA or El Volcán.

Late August

Monterrey Open

The WTA 500 at Club Sonoma ran from 23 to 29 August in 2026. The 2027 dates are not yet published.

September to November

Independence and Santa Lucía

Independence falls on 15 and 16 September. The Festival Internacional de Santa Lucía follows in the autumn, usually between late September and early November.

October to February

The cool months

January averages 22 degrees by day and 10 at night, the easiest weather for long days on site. The Day of the Dead falls on 1 and 2 November.

How It Works

The brief, the read, the authorisation, the officer, the day.

Step 01

The brief, under NDA

Dates, profile, hotel, plants, venues, how you arrive and where you go next. Held under NDA before a name or an address is shared.

Step 02

The read

We read the diary and the roads, then tell you honestly whether you need an officer, a driver or both.

Step 03

The authorisation

We match the company to the work, because an authorisation for one state does not cover a leg into Coahuila or Tamaulipas.

Step 04

The officer

Vetted, in Spanish and English, male or female, matched to the profile. You see the profile before anyone is deployed.

Step 05

The car and the day

Soft-skin or armoured, specified to the brief, with the route and its alternate confirmed before the first movement.

Step 06

One contact

One coordinator for the officer, the driver and the concierge side, in your language, through to the next city.

What protection in Monterrey costs.

Close protection in Monterrey is from USD 750 per day for one officer on twelve-hour cover. A security driver and an armoured vehicle are each quoted as their own line, one figure per line, confirmed before you pay.

Armed requirements and multi-vehicle teams sit above the base and are quoted to the brief. Armed authorisation needs a minimum 30-day lead time and may be refused. Further reading: what a bodyguard costs and bodyguard laws by country.

Mexican Legal Framework

Why protection in Monterrey must be authorised.

The Federal Private Security Law governs providers working in two or more states, and articles 16 and 25 require a Mexican provider. The Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana authorises them. Work inside one state falls to that state, so a company authorised only in Nuevo León cannot run a leg to Saltillo or the border.

Under the Federal Firearms and Explosives Law, article 26 reserves collective licences for private security to companies incorporated in Mexico. A foreign officer cannot work a detail: a visitor may not do paid work without a permit. Algoz coordinates only inside this framework. When to Hire

The moments that call for protection in Monterrey.

Business travel is the larger, quieter category: plant days, boards, due diligence and relocation, where the value is the car and the route. Pa’l Norte, a Clásico weekend and the Monterrey Open are the crowd moments.

Airport arrivals and evening movement on the San Pedro side are where even a short stay benefits from a security driver. For families posted to the city, the household keeps its rhythm while someone else manages the routes around it.

Good to Know

Bodyguard in Monterrey: frequently asked questions

How much does a bodyguard in Monterrey cost?

From USD 750 per day for one officer on twelve-hour cover. A security driver and an armoured vehicle are each quoted as their own line, one figure per line, confirmed before you pay.

Is it legal to hire a bodyguard in Monterrey, and who authorises the company?

Yes. Article 15 of the Federal Private Security Law lists the protection of persons as a lawful modality. A company working in two or more states is authorised by the federal Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana, and work inside one state falls to that state. Saltillo is in Coahuila and the end of the 85D is in Tamaulipas, so those legs need federal authorisation.

Can a bodyguard I bring from abroad work with me in Monterrey?

No. A foreign officer cannot work a detail or carry a weapon in Mexico. A visitor may not do paid work without a permit, and article 27 of the firearms law limits a foreigner's carry licence to permanent residents, sporting tourist permits aside.

Can my bodyguard be armed in Monterrey?

For private security work, armed protection exists in Mexico only through Mexican companies holding a collective firearms licence from the defence ministry. It needs a minimum 30-day lead time, may be refused, costs more and is never promised. For most Monterrey visits a low-profile, well-driven detail is the better answer.

Do I need an armoured car in Monterrey or is a security driver enough?

Often a security driver is enough, and we will say so. An armoured vehicle makes sense for higher profiles, repeated routines, residents and longer routes. It is specified to the brief and quoted as its own line, because an armoured vehicle driven badly protects nobody.

How much notice do you need for a detail in Monterrey?

We ask for at least seven days, which is what vetting the brief, assigning the right officer and doing the advance work takes. Shorter notice is looked at case by case, and under 48 hours carries an urgency fee and is not guaranteed. Armed authorisation needs a minimum 30-day lead time.

Is Monterrey safe for business travellers today, after what happened in 2010 to 2012?

There is no honest one-word answer. The years 2010 to 2012 were the city's worst, with the Casino Royale fire on 25 August 2011 and 49 bodies on Highway 40 in May 2012. Today Canada advises against non-essential travel to Nuevo León but excludes the city of Monterrey by name, and the UK says to take extreme care outside tourist areas. San Pedro and Apodaca are separate municipalities that Canada does not name. What you can manage is the car, the route, the routine and the hour.

Is San Pedro Garza García safe, and why does everyone stay there?

San Pedro has the highest Human Development Index of Nuevo León's 51 municipalities, and the hotels, offices and restaurants that bring visitors are there or close by. We do not put a safety label on any district, because neither government does: Canada's exclusion does not name San Pedro. The work there is arrivals, departures and routine.

Is it safe to drive from Monterrey to Laredo or McAllen, or should we fly?

Fly where the diary allows: MTY has nonstop flights to Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. The UK advises against all but essential travel to Tamaulipas, but excepts, among other areas, the Nuevo Laredo crossing reached on toll road 85D in daylight. Canada makes no such exception and advises arriving by air. Where the road is the honest answer, the 85D is planned for daylight with an alternate agreed. Reynosa and McAllen we treat as a flown leg only. Mexican officers do not cross the border, so a separate team meets you on the Texas side.

Can you meet us at Monterrey International Airport, and at Del Norte if we fly private?

Yes. We meet you inside the terminal at Monterrey International in Apodaca, or on the private side. Private flights can use MTY's general aviation terminal or Del Norte, also in Apodaca; the aircraft and its clearance decide which, and your operator confirms it. The luggage is counted and a vetted car and driver are waiting.

Do you cover plant visits in Apodaca, Pesquería and Santa Catarina, and board meetings in Valle Oriente?

Yes. A plant day is mostly road: the hotel, the crossing of the city, the gate and back. We confirm access with the site and vary departure times through the week. Board days are arrivals and departures, with the officer in the building. Name each site in the brief, because a plant in Coahuila is interstate work.

Can you protect us at Pa'l Norte, the Clásico Regiomontano or the Monterrey Open?

Yes, as planned events. Pa'l Norte's published dates are 26, 27 and 28 March 2027, inside Holy Week. The Clásico comes round in each short tournament, at Estadio BBVA or El Volcán. The Monterrey Open ran from 23 to 29 August in 2026, and the 2027 dates are not yet published. We walk the entrances and hold the car where it can reach you.

Do you have female officers and officers who speak English in Monterrey?

Yes, with notice. Female officers are available for family movement, for women travelling alone and for principals who prefer it. Officers and security drivers assigned to international principals work in Spanish and English. If nobody genuinely fits the brief, we say so rather than sending a compromise.

We are a family relocating to San Pedro: what does protection look like day to day?

Quiet and routine. We look at the residence, the household routines, the school run and the route to a private hospital such as TecSalud's Zambrano Hellion. The family is briefed on express kidnapping and on virtual kidnapping, which is extortion by telephone with nobody taken. Often a security driver is the whole answer.

I am an executive assistant booking for a principal: how does it work and why use Algoz rather than a local company?

You brief once and keep one contact, with a written proposal, the officer and driver profiles and a single number for changes. From the outside it is hard to separate an authorised, well-run company from one that merely claims to be. Algoz does that filtering, places every officer under NDA and supervises the detail against our own standard.

A Trusted Single Point of Contact

Close protection, handled by one accountable team in Monterrey.

Principals and the people who plan for them - executive assistants, personal assistants, chiefs of staff, family offices and the agencies and producers who book on a client’s behalf - brief Algoz once and we coordinate the rest. We speak the operational language of security leads and the discretion language of private offices, so nothing is lost in translation between the two.

Every detail in Monterrey is delivered by accredited, locally licensed close protection officers (male and female), armoured transport where the threat picture warrants it, and 24/7 operations - coordinated and quality-controlled by Algoz under NDA. UHNWI and HNWI principals, royal and family offices, executives, celebrities and public figures rely on Algoz as a credible, trustworthy first call.
