The far north is easy to love and hard to arrive in.

The risk in the far north is rarely crime. It is the road that closes at noon, the village of five hundred where a known face is the news, and the hospital a long way behind you. Arctic luxury travel is logistics first and scenery second.

Algoz is a protection house that runs concierge, so the lodge, the yacht, the flight, the driver and the officer sit on one brief. Voyages are arranged through our Swiss travel partner house and the operators and yachts that run them. Send the month and the party: one written proposal, one figure per line, under NDA from the first message.

  • One coordinator for the lodge, the yacht, the flight, the driver and the officer
  • Tromsø, the Lofoten, Finnish and Swedish Lapland and Iceland on the same brief
  • Arrivals planned from the airport that takes your aircraft, not the nearest on the map
  • Expedition yachts and coastal voyages through our Swiss travel partner house
  • Unarmed protection, with licensed local partners where the law requires them
  • A straight answer on what nobody can promise: the aurora, the whales, the landing
Straight Answers

Arctic luxury travel: the first questions.

What it is

What a private Arctic journey is

Your own lodge or yacht, your own route and your own driver, planned around the weather and the family. Not a berth on someone else's timetable, unless a ship is the right answer, in which case we say so.

Cost

What it costs

Each element is its own line, quoted to your brief. Protection in mainland Norway, Finland, Sweden and Iceland is from EUR 950 per day for one officer on twelve-hour cover.

Lead time

How far ahead to book

Earlier than you think, and here seven days is rarely enough.

Honesty

What nobody can promise

The aurora, the whales, a given landing, a given road. Anyone who guarantees the weather at this latitude is selling. We plan several nights, a second location and a day with nothing on it.

Coverage

Where we cover

Tromsø to the Lofoten in Norway, Rovaniemi to Saariselkä in Finland, Kiruna to Harads in Sweden, and Iceland from Reykjavík to the Highlands.

Security

Is protection included?

No, it is a separate service quoted to the brief. In a village of five hundred a recognised name is the whole news, and good planning does most of the work. See close protection explained.

What We Cover

What the house arranges in the north.

Stay

Lodges, Igloos and Private Houses

Small lodges on the fjord, restored fishing cabins, glass houses in the forest and turf retreats with their own hot pool. A whole-property takeover only where the house offers one.

Sea

Expedition Yachts and Coastal Voyages

A private expedition yacht in the Norwegian fjords, a suite on the Bergen to Kirkenes voyage, or a ship among the ice further north. See yacht charter.

Air

Private Aviation

The jet into the airport that can take it, the connecting aircraft or the car for the last stretch, and helicopters only where the rules allow them. See private jet charter.

Road

Drivers and Winter Vehicles

A driver who has done the road in January, winter tyres as the law requires and a plan for the day the pass closes. Quoted as its own line. See executive transportation.

Guided

Guides, Boats and Guided Days

Certified glacier guides for the ice caves, mountain guides for ski touring in Lyngen and private boats for the whales off Skjervøy.

Protect

Close Protection

A discreet officer who arrives with the family and stays out of the photographs, with a licensed local partner where the law requires one. Unarmed in every country on this page.

01 —

Tromsø, Lyngen and Senja

Tromsø gives you the Arctic with an airport 5 km from the centre and the University Hospital of North Norway about 4 km away. There is no train and most international arrivals change at Oslo. East of the city, Lyngen Lodge at Olderdalen keeps eight rooms under an alpine range that rises above 1,800 m, with guided ski touring from March to the end of May. Boats go out for whales near Skjervøy from November to January. Senja, about 50 minutes from Tromsø by fast boat, gives you the same mountains with fewer people.

Private travel
02 —

The Lofoten Islands

Reine, Hamnøy, Nusfjord and Henningsvær, a village of about 500 people, strung along a road of bridges and undersea tunnels. The skrei cod come in from February to April. You stay in restored 1880s fishing cabins at Hattvika Lodge in Ballstad, at Nusfjord or at Holmen. Then the honest part: Leknes has a 1,071 m runway and we do not plan a jet there, so the aircraft lands at Evenes and the car takes about two and a half hours to Svolvær. A name that travels here is noticed by lunchtime.

Private jet charter
03 —

Finnish Lapland

Rovaniemi sits on the Arctic Circle with Santa Claus Village on the line itself, which is why December there needs planning rather than hope. Levi is 15 km from Kittilä airport, with 43 pistes and a World Cup slalom in November. Saariselkä is the quieter end: Kakslauttanen borders Urho Kekkonen National Park and has a 310 square metre kelo and glass house for twelve with its own sauna, a 40-minute transfer from Ivalo airport. Jávri Lodge has thirteen rooms, adults only, a two-night minimum and a takeover option.

Villas and private stays
04 —

Swedish Lapland

The Icehotel at Jukkasjärvi, about 17 km from Kiruna, has been rebuilt from Torne river ice every winter since 1989, open from December to April. The Treehotel at Harads hangs rooms by named architects in the forest: the Mirrorcube, the Bird's Nest, the UFO. Abisko works for the aurora for plain reasons: inside the oval, clear skies behind the mountains and little light pollution, with a chairlift to the Aurora Sky Station at 900 m. It lies on the Iron Ore Line railway to Narvik, which derailments have closed in recent winters, so a car stays on the plan.

Executive transportation
05 —

Iceland

The North Atlantic edge of the Arctic. Long-range jets land at Keflavík, 50 km from Reykjavík, where South Air runs a private terminal with immigration and customs on site. Reykjavík's own airport, about 2 km from the centre, has short runways. Highland Base at Kerlingarfjöll is reached by 4x4 super jeep when its road closes. The ice caves under Vatnajökull run from October to April, with certified guides only. At Reynisfjara six people have died in sneaker waves since 2007, and we keep the family well back from the water.

Expedition Yachts and the Coastal Voyage

Three ways to travel by sea, and we tell you which suits. A private expedition yacht in the Norwegian fjords and the Lofoten, from May to late September, for a party that wants the boat to itself. The Bergen to Kirkenes coastal voyage, 34 ports northbound and twelve days for the round trip, for the coast in winter without the logistics. Or a ship among the ice further north, to Svalbard and Greenland. Aircraft may not be used for tourism on Svalbard, so nobody should sell you a helicopter there.

Yacht charter
The Arctic by Month

The calendar the north is booked around.

September and October

The aurora returns

Dark nights are back, and Visit Norway notes that autumn and spring have the highest statistical aurora activity. Autumn colour in Lapland, and the ice caves open from October.

November and December

Whales and the dark

Whale boats work the waters near Skjervøy into January. Tromsø loses the sun from late November to mid January. Levi holds its World Cup slalom in mid November, and Christmas in Lapland books out far earlier than anything else.

January and February

Festivals in the blue light

The Tromsø International Film Festival runs 18 to 24 January 2027, the Jokkmokk Winter Market 4 to 6 February, and Nordlysfestivalen in Tromsø 11 to 20 February. The skrei reach the Lofoten.

March to May

The skiing months

Finnmarksløpet leaves Alta from 5 March 2027. Ski touring runs in Lyngen from March to the end of May, summit to sea.

June and July

The midnight sun

In Tromsø the sun stays up from about the third week of May to late July. The Midnight Sun Marathon is on 19 June 2027, the Kerlingarfjöll Ultra on 24 July. Iceland's Highland roads usually open in June or July.

August

The long last light

The Arctic Race of Norway runs 12 to 15 August 2027. The Highlands are open, the yachts are still sailing, and the first aurora of the season appears from late August in the far north.

The Engagement

How an Arctic journey is run.

Step One

Enquiry

You write once, in whichever language suits, with the dates, the party and what the journey should feel like. Held under NDA from the first message.

Step Two

The Brief

A short written brief: the places, the children, the fitness of the party, any medical condition and any name that changes the security picture.

Step Three

Proposal

One written proposal: lodge, yacht, flight, guides, driver and officer, each as its own line, one figure per line, confirmed before you pay.

Step Four

Confirmation

The lodge, the yacht or the ship is confirmed, the voyages through our Swiss travel partner house, with routes agreed with the operator and permits handled where the authorities require them.

Step Five

On the Journey

One named coordinator who stays reachable, speaks to the captain or the lodge, moves the plan when the weather moves and tells you the truth about the forecast.

Step Six

After

The account reconciled to the proposal line by line, your feedback taken, and the file kept for next winter under the same NDA.

Excellence, Discreetly Delivered

“The Arctic does not care who you are. That is most of its appeal and all of the planning.”

Algoz Group
Indicative Cost

What Arctic luxury travel costs.

We quote to the brief, and we do not publish a figure for a journey we have not scoped. The lodge, the yacht, the cabin, the flights, the guides and the vehicles are each quoted as their own line, one figure per line, confirmed before you pay. Close protection in mainland Norway, Finland, Sweden and Iceland is from EUR 950 per day for one officer on twelve-hour cover. On Svalbard and in Greenland the officer is quoted to the brief, with travel and the officer's berth as separate lines.

An expedition is booked far ahead. We ask for at least seven days, but cabins and yachts for the season are taken months ahead and peak weeks book out far earlier. Under 48 hours carries an urgency fee and is not guaranteed. See what a luxury concierge costs and what a bodyguard costs.

One written proposal the office can approve line by line, named contacts, insurance requirements stated and a single person who answers.

Photographers

Aurora and wildlife, properly done

Dark-sky locations chosen against the forecast, a driver willing to move at 23h00, a guide for the cold, and drones only where the rules allow.

Where We Deliver

Norway, Lapland and Iceland first, the ice beyond.

From Tromsø, Lyngen, Alta and the Lofoten to Rovaniemi, Levi, Saariselkä, Kiruna, Abisko and Harads, then Reykjavík, the south coast and the Highlands. The same house arranges Svalbard, Greenland, Antarctica and the wider range of destination management.

Good to Know

Private Arctic Travel: Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to see the northern lights in Norway?

Visit Norway gives the season as late August to late March, and Visit Tromsø runs it to early April. Autumn and spring have the highest statistical activity, and the best hours are often between 23h00 and 02h00. We plan several nights and keep a car ready to move away from the cloud. Nobody can guarantee a sighting, and a house that does is selling you something.

How much does Arctic luxury travel cost?

There is no honest single figure until the brief exists. Every element is quoted as its own line, one figure per line, confirmed before you pay. Close protection in mainland Norway, Finland, Sweden and Iceland is from EUR 950 per day for one officer on twelve-hour cover.

Can you hire a bodyguard in Norway or Iceland?

Yes, through the house, with local partners where the law requires them. Commercial security work in Norway needs a police permit held by a company established in Norway, so a detail there runs through a licensed Norwegian partner and never in its place. In Iceland, as in the other countries on this page, our protection is unarmed. The FCDO warns that emergency medical help and search and rescue are limited in the remote north, so the medical plan comes first. The emergency number is 112 in all four countries, and 113 reaches an ambulance in Norway. If you need less protection than you expected, we say so.

Do you offer armed protection in Norway, Sweden, Finland or Iceland?

No. Our protection in all four countries is unarmed as house policy. In Norway, section 12 of the guard services act (vaktvirksomhetsloven) states that guard duty is performed unarmed. Sweden licenses security companies under Act 1974:191, through the county administrative boards. On Svalbard a guide's rifle is polar bear safety equipment under the Governor's rules. It is not armed protection, and our officer does not carry one.

How far ahead do you book an Arctic expedition or a Lapland Christmas?

We ask for at least seven days for anything; under 48 hours carries an urgency fee and is not guaranteed. An expedition needs far longer: cabins and yachts for the season are taken months ahead, and peak weeks, Christmas in Lapland above all, book out far earlier. On Svalbard the Governor requires an application at least four weeks before travel outside the travel area, so seven days is not enough.

Is Iceland safe to visit with the volcanic eruptions?

The FCDO describes crime levels as low. The current series of eruptions on the Reykjanes peninsula, near Grindavík, began in December 2023, after earlier eruptions there from March 2021. Keflavík has stayed open throughout, and Reykjavík has seen no physical damage, but further eruptions on the peninsula are expected. The Blue Lagoon has closed repeatedly since November 2023, so its status is confirmed before it goes on the programme. The commoner dangers are the sea, the cliffs, the hot springs and the speed of the weather. Travel plans go to Safetravel, run by the ICE-SAR volunteer rescue service.

Tromsø or the Lofoten islands for the northern lights?

Tromsø if you want an easy arrival, more flights, a hospital and the option of driving to clearer skies. The Lofoten if you want mountains and sea in the frame and accept a longer arrival. Visit Lofoten gives September to April, Visit Tromsø September to early April. For a first trip, a short stay or children we suggest Tromsø. For a photographer with time, the islands.

Can children go to Lapland in the polar night?

Yes, with planning. Rovaniemi is on the Arctic Circle and has no true polar night, so the day is short rather than absent. Further north the sun goes for weeks: in Tromsø from late November to mid January. Temperatures in Norway can fall to minus 25 degrees Celsius and below, with strong wind chill. We keep outings short and transfers brief, and we identify the nearest hospital before you land. Levi and Rovaniemi have the simplest flights.

How do you get to the Lofoten islands by private jet?

Usually into Harstad/Narvik Airport at Evenes, which has a runway of about 2,800 m and lies 160 km, about two and a half hours by road, from Svolvær and 230 km from Leknes. Leknes itself has a 1,071 m runway, and we do not promise a jet into Leknes or Svolvær. A car does the rest. Runway, handling and customs are checked for your aircraft type before anything is confirmed.

Is Deplar Farm worth it and how do you get there?

Deplar Farm is a converted sheep farm on the Troll Peninsula in north Iceland, with 13 rooms and a spa, run by Eleven. Spring brings heli-skiing, winter the aurora, summer hot springs, hiking and fishing. It is worth the journey if you came for those things, and too remote for a short stay centred on Reykjavík. Access, minimum stay and the rate are confirmed with the lodge before we quote. Akureyri Airport, in the north with a 2,400 m runway, is the natural point of arrival for the Troll Peninsula.

Can you charter an expedition yacht in the Norwegian fjords?

Yes, through our Swiss travel partner house and the operators and yachts that run these voyages. The published season for crewed charter in Norway runs from May to late September, with the Lofoten, Tromsø and Kirkenes among the usual stops. Winter is a different conversation and depends on the vessel. The yacht is quoted as its own line. We say honestly which yachts suit.

What does a private expedition yacht give you that a cruise does not?

A smaller party and a more flexible day, always inside the local rules. You set the pace, stay longer where the wildlife is, and no one else's schedule decides the morning. It does not give you a private Arctic. On Svalbard, tourist landings in protected areas are limited to mapped sites and aircraft may not be used for tourism. A well-run ship with good expedition staff is sometimes the better answer, and we say so when it is.

When do the F-roads in the Icelandic Highlands open?

Safetravel says the F-roads are usually closed from mid September until June or July, and each road opens when conditions allow. Check umferdin.is for the live status. They are for suitable 4x4 vehicles only, not every 4x4 will do, and no insurance covers damage while crossing a river. Off-road driving is forbidden. A private super jeep with a driver who knows the crossings is the sensible way in.

When is whale season in Tromsø?

Visit Tromsø gives November to January, and the boats usually work the waters around Skjervøy, north of the city, which is reached by road through the Maursund tunnel. Sightings can never be promised. We book a private boat where one exists, dress the party for open water and keep a second day in hand.

What should an assistant send to book an Arctic trip for a principal?

The dates and how firm they are, the party and their ages, passports and visa status, any medical condition or mobility limit, the aircraft if there is one, the preferred language, dietary needs and whether any name needs special handling. Note that a principal who needs a Schengen visa needs one for Svalbard too, because the route transits Norway. Everything is held under NDA from the first message.

Why use a protection house for an Arctic trip?

Because the difficult parts of the Arctic are distance and logistics, and that is how a protection house thinks. We plan the arrival, the second route, the nearest hospital and the day the weather closes everything, and then we plan the lodge. Where we cannot deliver to our own standard in a given place, we say so rather than accepting the work and learning on your family.
