Bodyguard in Los Cabos
Hiring a bodyguard in Los Cabos, answered.
Yes, you can hire a bodyguard in Los Cabos, through Mexican security companies authorised under the Federal Private Security Law. The United States rates Baja California Sur Level 2, Exercise Increased Caution, and neither Canada nor the United Kingdom lists it among the states to avoid. The work sits at four points: the airport road, the villa gate, the marina and the late drive home.
Algoz is a protection house that also runs the concierge side, so the officer, the driver, the villa and the boat are one plan with one contact under NDA, from USD 750 per day for one officer on twelve-hour cover. Send the dates for a written proposal, with no obligation.
- Officers from authorised Mexican companies, vetted and under NDA
- The airport transfer run by a federally permitted operator, confirmed in advance
- Your driver authorised and named to the hotel before you reach the gate
- The villa gate, the staff and the vendors read before you arrive
- An officer on the tender and at the dock for yacht and fishing weeks
- Unarmed and low profile as standard; armed only through a licensed Mexican company
What people ask before enquiring.
Is it legal?
Yes, through Mexican companies authorised under the Federal Private Security Law: federally for work across states, under Baja California Sur’s own rules for work inside it. A foreign officer cannot work a detail or carry a weapon in Mexico.
What it costs
From USD 750 per day for one officer on twelve-hour cover. A security driver, villa night cover and yacht days are each quoted as its own line, confirmed before you pay.
How much notice
We ask for at least seven days. Shorter notice is looked at case by case; under 48 hours carries an urgency fee and is not guaranteed. Christmas week, Bisbee week and spring break book out far earlier.
Armed or unarmed
Armed only through Mexican companies holding a collective firearms licence from the defence ministry. It needs a minimum 30-day lead time and may be refused. For most Los Cabos visits a low-profile, well-driven detail is the better answer.
Where we cover
Cabo San Lucas, Pedregal, the Corridor, San José del Cabo, Puerto Los Cabos, the East Cape, Todos Santos and La Paz, then Mexico City and the US West Coast under the same brief.
Who you get
Vetted officers with police, military or federal service backgrounds, working in Spanish and English, with female officers on request and boat-literate officers where the brief needs them. If nobody genuinely fits, we say so.
Bodyguard services in Los Cabos.
Authorised Mexican officers
Officers who read as an assistant rather than a guard, and are absent where they are not needed. NDA-bound and supervised to the Algoz standard.
Security drivers
Often the whole answer here. A driver from a permitted service who knows the alternates on Highway 1 and when not to stop. See executive transportation.
Villa and night cover
The gate, the cameras and the staff read before you arrive, and an officer through the night where the house needs one. See villas and property rental.
Yachts and sportfishing
An officer on the tender and at the dock, with the captain and crew briefed. See yacht charter.
Private aviation
The officer at the general aviation terminal, the vehicle held, the customs arrangement confirmed with your handler for each flight. See private jet charter.
Families and weddings
Female officers where the family prefers them, the guest list read, the perimeter walked. See female travel protection and destination weddings.
The districts: Cabo San Lucas, the Corridor and San José
Los Cabos is two towns joined by one road. Cabo San Lucas wraps around its marina of about 380 slips, then Médano beach, the downtown bars and Land’s End. Above it sits Pedregal, a gated hillside enclave with controlled entrances; the Waldorf Astoria on its Pacific side is reached through a private tunnel. The Corridor runs about 32 km past One&Only Palmilla, Las Ventanas al Paraíso at Km 19.5, Esperanza, Chileno Bay and Montage at Santa María Bay. Beyond the estuary at San José, Puerto Los Cabos holds Zadún, the JW Marriott and El Ganzo. The work is the marina pavement, the villa gate and the late exit downtown. Resorts were reported in 2026 to be checking commercial drivers at the gate, so your driver is authorised and named to the hotel in advance. Night movements on the Corridor are planned, never improvised.
Villas and property rentalThe arrivals: SJD, the private terminal and the first hour
Most visitors land at Los Cabos International (SJD), about 10 km north of San José del Cabo. Private flights use the general aviation terminal at the north end of the field, or the privately owned Cabo San Lucas airport. SJD is a regulated federal zone where federally permitted companies collect passengers, and the US alert of June 2026 says ride-share apps may drop off but not collect. The timeshare hall just inside is known locally as the Shark Tank; you walk through it without stopping. Part of the fighting of late May 2026 took place on the highway to the airport, so the first transfer is planned: the officer in place, a federally permitted operator, the driver and vehicle confirmed in advance, and about 45 km to Cabo San Lucas in 40 to 60 minutes, depending on traffic.
Private jet charterBeyond the Corridor: the East Cape, Todos Santos and La Paz
North of San José the road empties. Costa Palmas, on the Sea of Cortez 45 to 60 minutes from the airport by road or 15 by helicopter, holds the Four Seasons, Amanvari, open since August 2026, and a marina of 35 slips for yachts up to 150 ft. Cabo Pulmo National Park, a UNESCO-listed reef, lies further along the Gulf coast. On the Pacific, Todos Santos sits about an hour up Highway 19, with La Paz about an hour beyond. These rural roads are driven in daylight, because of cattle on the tarmac and the distance from a hospital. The same brief continues to Mexico City, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
Multi-city travel managementThe risk picture, honestly
The advisory level is only the start of the picture, and the record is not clean. For 2017 a Mexican citizens’ council ranked Los Cabos the most violent city in the world, with 365 homicides and a rate of 111.33 per 100,000, and that August gunmen killed three men on Playa Palmilla while families were on the sand. It no longer stood near the top of the following edition, yet homicide investigations in the state were reported to have nearly doubled in the first eleven months of 2025. In late April 2025 three officials were killed, three buses burned and banners appeared at the airport, and the United States and Canada issued alerts. Between 30 May and 1 June 2026 clashes between armed groups and the army near the airport and on the highway to it left civilians dead and wounded, among them a visiting American, and the US Consulate issued a security alert. Protective planning reduces exposure; it does not remove it. The plan covers the transport, the hours, the watch on the marina and the ATM after dark, and the brief names the nearest suitable private hospital and confirms medical evacuation cover before you arrive.
Protection across MexicoThe calendar: Bisbee’s, the whales and Christmas week
Los Cabos has fixed peaks, and the officers who know them are reserved early. Bisbee’s Black & Blue, from 26 to 30 October 2027, reshapes the town. In 2026 it drew 175 teams and the weigh station in front of Puerto Paraíso ran from 14h00 to 21h00, so the attention sits on the marina pavement into the night. Over Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 the authorities deployed 1,700 personnel from 27 agencies. The hurricane season runs to 30 November and September is the peak, but October storms have disrupted Bisbee week itself: Norma closed the port in 2023. After Odile in 2014 about 30,000 holidaymakers were stranded across the peninsula and many had to be flown out. Peak weeks are logistics: the boat and the table booked ahead, the way out decided before the way in.
Yacht charterHow a Los Cabos detail is actually run
It starts with the diary, never with a headcount. For many Los Cabos visits a security driver alone is the proportionate answer, and we say so. The usual step up is one officer with a driver. Villa night cover is its own line, a second officer is worth discussing for Bisbee week or a wedding, and a yacht week puts an officer on the tender and at the dock. An armoured vehicle is rarely the right answer on the Corridor. Every officer works under Mexican authorisation and NDA, and one contact stays with the engagement from proposal to departure. See what a security driver costs.
How close protection worksWhen protection earns its day.
Film, food and Christmas week
The film festival is listed for 9 to 13 December 2026 and Sabor a Cabo is usually held in December. Christmas brings the busiest weeks of the year and a visible public security operation.
Whale season
The commercial window opens on 15 December, peaks from January to March and closes in mid to late April by federal notice.
Spring break and Easter
March is the peak of spring break, centred on Médano and the downtown bars. Families are better placed on the Corridor.
Tennis and the East Cape
The Los Cabos Open ran from 27 July to 1 August in 2026 at the Cabo Sports Complex, and its week has moved in past years. Bisbee’s East Cape Offshore runs from 3 to 7 August 2027.
Bisbee’s, tuna and golf
Los Cabos Offshore from 19 to 23 October 2027 and Black & Blue from 26 to 30 October 2027, each with a storm plan. The Tuna Jackpot and the WWT Championship usually follow in November.
Hurricane season
September is the peak. A detail in these months carries a weather plan: the forecast watched and the way out by air decided in advance.
The brief, the officer, the driver, the stay.
The brief, under NDA
Dates, profile, villa or hotel, how you arrive and whether a boat is involved, held under NDA before a name is shared.
The proportion
A security driver alone, one officer with a driver, or more. We propose the smallest detail that genuinely covers the diary.
The officer and the driver
Vetted, under Mexican authorisation, in your language. You see the profiles before anyone is deployed.
The gates
The terminal, the hotel gate, the villa entrance and the dock, each confirmed before you reach it.
The stay
Present on the pavement, at the gate and at the dock. Invisible at dinner.
One contact
One coordinator for the officer, the driver, the boat and the concierge side, and for the next city.
“In Los Cabos the protection is at the gate, on the pavement and on the road: planned, not visible.”
What a bodyguard costs in Los Cabos.
Close protection in Los Cabos is from USD 750 per day for one officer on twelve-hour cover. A security driver, an armoured vehicle, villa night cover and yacht days are each quoted as its own line, one figure per line, confirmed before you pay. Multi-officer details and peak weeks sit above the base and are quoted to the brief.
Armed cover also sits above the base, needs a minimum 30-day lead time and may be refused. See what a bodyguard costs.
Why protection in Los Cabos must be licensed.
Private security in Mexico runs under the Federal Private Security Law (Ley Federal de Seguridad Privada). A company working across states needs authorisation from the federal Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana; one working only inside Baja California Sur is authorised under the state’s own rules. Under the federal law the provider must be of Mexican nationality.
Weapons fall under the Federal Firearms and Explosives Law: a company may be armed only under a collective licence from the Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional. A foreign officer cannot work a detail or carry a weapon in Mexico, and Algoz coordinates only inside this framework. See how our close protection works, executive transportation and bodyguard laws by country.
