Hiring a bodyguard in Mexico City, answered.

You can, and in Mexico City it is the normal way for a visiting principal to move. Private security is authorised federally and by the city, and Algoz arranges everything inside that framework: a vetted officer meets you at the airport, a security driver runs the capital from an armoured or soft-skin vehicle as the brief requires, and one contact under NDA answers for the whole engagement. Send your dates and a clear proposal follows, with no obligation.

Straight Answers

What people ask before enquiring.

Legality

Is it legal?

Yes. Private security companies are authorised under the Federal Private Security Law and by Mexico City’s own public security authority. A foreign officer cannot simply fly in and work a detail, and cannot carry a firearm.

Cost

What it costs

From USD 900 per day for one officer on twelve-hour cover. A security driver and an armoured vehicle are quoted separately and are the two additions that matter most in this city.

Speed

How fast

We ask for at least seven days. Shorter notice is looked at case by case; under 48 hours carries an urgency fee and is never guaranteed, and Grand Prix week books out far earlier.

Weapons

Armed or unarmed

Armed protection exists in Mexico through companies holding a collective firearms licence from the defence ministry. It needs a minimum 30-day lead, may be refused, and for most visits a well-driven low-profile detail is the better answer.

Coverage

Where we cover

Polanco, Lomas, Santa Fe, Reforma, Roma and Condesa, then Mexico: Monterrey, Guadalajara, Los Cabos, the Riviera Maya, San Miguel de Allende and Valle de Bravo.

Language

Who you get

Vetted officers with police, military or federal service backgrounds, working in Spanish and English, with female officers for family movement and further languages on request.

North America’s Largest City

Why Hire a Bodyguard in Mexico City?

Mexico City is one of the great capitals of the Americas: twenty-odd million people in the metropolitan area, the headquarters of most of the country’s banks and corporations, and a restaurant, art and design scene that draws the world. For a visitor it is a far more ordinary place than its reputation suggests. Polanco, Lomas, Reforma, Roma and Condesa function much like the better districts of any large city, and most visits pass without incident.

What makes the city specific is that the realistic risks are opportunistic and tied to movement: a watch noticed at a restaurant table, a taxi hailed off the street, a predictable route driven at a predictable hour. Protection here is therefore mostly about the car, the route and the routine. Algoz arranges it through authorised Mexican security companies we have tested on real engagements, for visiting executives and investors, families, public figures and the assistants and family offices who book on their behalf.

Mexico City’s Security Environment

The specific principal risk profile.

Movement

Express Kidnapping

The short-duration abduction for cash withdrawal is the risk most particular to this city, and it is almost always a movement failure: an unvetted car, a hailed taxi, a route nobody planned.

Valuables

Watch & Jewellery Theft

Robbery targeted at visible watches is a known pattern in the restaurant districts. The fix is partly protective and partly a quiet word about what to wear to dinner.

Routine

Predictable Patterns

The same hotel door at the same hour makes any diary legible. Varying departure points and timings costs nothing and removes most of the exposure.

Traffic

Congestion & Blockades

Distances are large, traffic is heavy and demonstrations regularly close Reforma and the approaches to the Zócalo. Timing is a professional discipline here.

Fraud

Virtual Kidnapping

Extortion calls claiming a relative has been taken are common and rely on panic. A briefed family and one number to call defeats them.

Environment

Altitude & Seismic

The city sits at about 2,240 metres and has a seismic alert system. Both are planning factors for older principals and for where a detail holds during an alarm.

Bodyguard Services in Mexico City

CPOs

Authorised Mexican Officers

Vetted officers working under federal and Mexico City authorisation, fluent in Spanish and English, NDA-bound and supervised against the Algoz standard throughout.

Transport

Security Drivers

The single most valuable purchase in this city. A trained driver who knows the alternates, the correct hotel entrance and when not to stop.

Vehicles

Armoured Vehicles

Armoured saloons and SUVs from registered providers, specified to the brief rather than by habit, with a soft-skin option when discretion matters more than ballistic rating.

Executive

Executive & Delegation Cover

Board visits, plant and site visits, negotiations and investor delegations, with venue liaison and clean movement between Santa Fe, Polanco and Reforma.

Family

Family & Residence

School runs, residence assessment in Lomas and Bosques, household staff routines and female officers where the family prefers them.

Concierge

Concierge + Security

Tables, galleries, private museum access and aviation handling arranged by the same team that protects you.

01 —

Polanco, Masaryk & the restaurant district

Polanco is where most visiting principals stay and eat: Avenida Presidente Masaryk with its boutiques, the restaurants that put the city on the world’s dining map, the museums along the edge of Chapultepec. It is also where a visible watch is most likely to be noticed. Protective work here is about arrivals and departures. The vehicle is positioned so the pavement transition is a few steps, the officer is inside the restaurant rather than at the door, and the table is chosen with the exit in mind. Nothing about it should look like security, and a good evening in Polanco should feel exactly like a good evening.

02 —

Reforma, the Angel & the hotel corridor

Paseo de la Reforma carries the Four Seasons, the St. Regis, the Ritz-Carlton and the Sofitel within a short drive of each other, alongside the towers of the financial corridor and the Angel of Independence. It is also the city’s preferred route for marches. Our work with these hotels is liaison before presence: arrival timing and luggage agreed, floor and lift plans understood, the side entrance used when the main one is closed by a demonstration. We check the march calendar daily, because a blocked Reforma turns a ten-minute transfer into an hour unless the alternate was already chosen.

03 —

Santa Fe, Lomas & the corporate west

Santa Fe is the corporate district on the western edge, reached by a small number of roads that saturate at peak hours, and Lomas de Chapultepec and Bosques de las Lomas hold many of the embassies and private residences. Protection here is commuter work done properly: departure times that avoid the worst of the corridor, routes varied through the week, a driver who knows which tunnel floods in the rainy season. For principals based in the city for a month or a year, this is where routine becomes exposure and where a little discipline removes it.

04 —

Roma, Condesa & the evening

Roma and Condesa are the walkable, tree-lined districts of galleries, bars and restaurants that most visitors enjoy the most. They are also where street-level opportunism is likeliest late at night. The detail walks with the principal rather than following in a car, the vehicle is held on a street that can actually be left, and the officer reads the pavement rather than the doorway. Most of the work is a matter of timing: leaving ten minutes before the bars empty, and never hailing a taxi off the street.

05 —

Benito Juárez, Felipe Ángeles & Toluca

Commercial arrivals come through Benito Juárez International, close to the centre and chronically busy, or Felipe Ángeles International to the north. Private aviation mostly uses Toluca, about an hour west over the mountains. Each arrival is the most exposed moment of the visit and the one most often left to chance. We arrange meet and assist, luggage counted, and a vetted vehicle and driver waiting, never an airport taxi or an application. The first transfer runs on a planned route with an alternate held in reserve, and the Toluca road is driven in daylight where the schedule allows.

06 —

How a Mexico City detail is actually run

It starts with the diary, never with a headcount. We read the dates, the venues, the profile and the districts, then propose the smallest team that genuinely covers the brief: often a security driver alone, usually one officer with a driver, a two-vehicle configuration for higher profiles or longer routes. Every officer works under Mexican authorisation, signs an NDA and is briefed to the Algoz standard; every venue is checked before the principal arrives; and one contact stays with the engagement from proposal to departure. How close protection works.

07 —

Beyond the capital: Monterrey, Guadalajara & the coasts

Few Mexican itineraries stop at the capital. The same team follows the principal to Monterrey and Guadalajara for business, to Los Cabos and the Riviera Maya for leisure, and to San Miguel de Allende and Valle de Bravo for weekends. The risk picture changes sharply by state and sometimes by highway, so road movement between cities is assessed leg by leg and often replaced by a flight. One brief, one standard and one point of contact carry across the country, and onward to Miami or Los Angeles when the journey continues.

Mexican Legal Framework

Why protection in Mexico City must be licensed.

Private security in Mexico is governed by the Federal Private Security Law. Companies operating in more than one state are authorised by the federal Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana, and within the capital by Mexico City’s own Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana. Firearms fall under the Federal Firearms and Explosives Law, administered by the defence ministry, and a security company may only be armed under a collective licence. A foreign bodyguard cannot lawfully work a detail or carry a weapon, and engaging unregistered individuals leaves a principal without liability cover and exposed in Mexican jurisdiction.

Algoz coordinates protection in Mexico City exclusively through this authorised framework, with every operative vetted, NDA-bound and briefed for the capital. See how our close protection works, add executive transportation, or plan a wider multi-city itinerary through one contact.

When to Hire

The moments that specifically call for protection in Mexico City.

Late October is the peak. The Mexico City Grand Prix at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez fills the hotels of Polanco and Reforma, and the Day of the Dead on 1 and 2 November, with its parade along Reforma, follows within days. February brings Zona Maco and the art week. Independence on 15 and 16 September draws enormous crowds to the Zócalo, and 12 December brings millions of pilgrims to the Basilica of Guadalupe, with road closures to match.

Business travel is the larger and quieter category: board and plant visits, due diligence, negotiations and relocations, where the value is in the car and the route rather than in a visible presence. Airport arrivals and evening movement in Roma, Condesa and Polanco are the two moments where even a short stay benefits from a security driver. For families posted to the city, the practical value is simpler still: the household keeps its rhythm while someone else manages the routes around it.

Excellence, Discreetly Delivered

Bodyguard in Mexico City - Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a bodyguard in Mexico City cost?

As a guide, professional close protection in Mexico starts from USD 900 per day (the EUR 850 market base) for one officer covering a single principal on twelve hours, with the final rate shaped by the profile, the districts and the season, and confirmed on enquiry with no obligation. A security driver and an armoured vehicle are quoted separately and are the most useful additions in this city. Grand Prix week and the Day of the Dead carry a premium, and multi-city Mexican itineraries are quoted as one programme.

Is it legal to hire a bodyguard in Mexico?

Yes, through authorised companies. Private security is governed by the Federal Private Security Law, with authorisation from the federal public security ministry for companies working across states and from Mexico City for work inside the capital. A bodyguard brought from abroad cannot lawfully work a detail in Mexico and cannot carry a firearm. Algoz coordinates only authorised Mexican operatives.

Do I need an armoured car in Mexico City?

Not always, and we will say so plainly. For a short business visit in Polanco, Reforma and Santa Fe, a vetted security driver in a soft-skin vehicle is often the proportionate answer. An armoured vehicle makes sense for higher profiles, longer routes, repeated routines and residents. It is specified to the brief rather than sold by default, because an armoured vehicle driven badly protects nobody.

Can my bodyguard be armed in Mexico City?

Armed protection exists in Mexico through security companies that hold a collective firearms licence issued by the defence ministry. It is not available to foreign nationals, requires a minimum 30-day lead time for authorisation and may be refused. For most visits a low-profile, well-driven detail is both the lawful and the better choice.

How quickly can you mobilise a bodyguard in Mexico City?

We ask for at least seven days, which is what vetting the brief, assigning the right officer and completing the advance work takes. Shorter notice is looked at case by case, but anything under 48 hours carries an urgency fee and is never guaranteed, and nobody puts a licensed officer in place in 24 hours. Grand Prix week should be booked months ahead.

Is Mexico City safe for business travellers?

For most visitors, in the districts they actually use, yes. Polanco, Lomas, Reforma, Roma and Condesa function much like the better districts of any large city. The realistic risks are opportunistic and tied to movement: hailed taxis, visible valuables, predictable routes and late nights. Managing those is straightforward, which is why protection here is mostly about the car and the routine rather than a visible guard.

What is express kidnapping, and how do you prevent it?

It is a short-duration abduction, usually a few hours, aimed at forcing cash withdrawals or card payments. It almost always begins with an unvetted vehicle: a taxi hailed from the street or an unverified ride. Prevention is simple and reliable: vetted drivers and vehicles for every movement, varied routes and timings, and no improvised transport late at night.

Can you meet us at the airport, including Toluca for private jets?

Yes. We arrange meet and assist at Benito Juarez International and Felipe Angeles International, and at Toluca for private aviation, with luggage handled and a vetted vehicle and driver waiting. The first transfer runs on a planned route with an alternate in reserve, and the road from Toluca is driven in daylight where the schedule allows.

Do you cover the Mexico City Grand Prix and the Day of the Dead?

Yes. Late October into early November is when Mexico City details are booked earliest. Event cover is planned around perimeters and crowd flows at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez and along the parade route on Reforma: accreditation and access checked in advance, the vehicle held where it can actually reach you, and the officer working the venue rather than the doorway.

Do you cover Monterrey, Guadalajara, Los Cabos and Cancun?

Yes. The same standard and the same point of contact follow you across Mexico: Monterrey and Guadalajara for business, Los Cabos and the Riviera Maya for leisure, San Miguel de Allende and Valle de Bravo for weekends. Road movement between cities is assessed leg by leg and often replaced by a flight. Share the full itinerary when you enquire so it is planned as one programme.

Do you provide female close protection officers in Mexico City?

Yes. Female officers are available for family movement, for women travelling alone and for principals who simply prefer it, in Spanish and English. See our page on protection and company for solo female travellers for how that brief is matched.

Do your officers speak English?

Yes. Officers and security drivers assigned to international principals work in Spanish and English, and Portuguese or French can be arranged with notice. An officer who cannot speak to a hotel manager, a driver and a police officer in the same hour is doing half the job.

Why use Algoz rather than hiring a Mexican security company directly?

Because from the outside a principal has no reliable way to separate a properly authorised and well-run firm from one that merely claims to be, and in Mexico that difference matters more than in most countries. Algoz has done that filtering on real engagements and retained providers on merit. We match the team to your profile, place every officer under NDA and supervise the detail against our own standard, giving you one accountable contact.

I am an executive assistant booking for a principal. How does that work?

You brief once and keep one contact. You receive a written proposal, the officer and driver profiles, the vehicle specification and a single number for changes. Nothing about the principal is shared with a supplier beyond what the work requires, and the same contact stays with the engagement until departure.
