Hiring a bodyguard in Guadalajara, answered.

You can hire a bodyguard in Guadalajara through Mexican companies holding the authorisation the law requires. Algoz arranges everything inside that framework: a vetted officer at GDL or the private terminal, a security driver, and one contact under NDA who answers for the whole engagement.

In this city the protection is mostly in the driving. Send your dates and you receive a written proposal with a final rate and no obligation. If a low-profile driver alone is the honest answer, we say so at the enquiry.

  • Vetted Mexican officers with police, military or federal service backgrounds, under NDA
  • Your arrival met inside GDL or at the private terminal, not at the kerb
  • A security driver first, and a second officer only when the brief earns one
  • Soft-skin or armoured car specified to the brief and quoted as its own line
  • Roads assessed leg by leg: Chapala, Tequila, the plants and the coast
  • One contact from proposal to departure
Straight Answers

What people ask before enquiring.

Legality

Is it legal?

Yes, through authorised companies. The Federal Private Security Law covers companies working across states, and in Jalisco a provider needs the state’s authorisation or registration. Close protection of persons needs specific state approval. A foreign officer cannot work a detail or carry a weapon in Mexico.

Cost

What it costs

From USD 750 per day for one officer on twelve-hour cover. Security drivers and armoured vehicles are priced separately.

Speed

How fast

We ask for at least seven days. Shorter notice is looked at case by case; under 48 hours carries an urgency fee and is not guaranteed. FIL week and the Romería book out far earlier.

Weapons

Armed or unarmed

Armed protection exists in Mexico only through Mexican companies holding a collective firearms licence from the defence ministry. It needs a minimum 30-day lead time, may be refused, and for most visits a low-profile, well-driven detail is the better answer.

Coverage

Where we cover

Zapopan, Andares, Puerta de Hierro, Providencia, Chapalita, Lafayette, the Expo, the Centro and Tlaquepaque. Then Chapala, Ajijic, Tequila, Puerto Vallarta and Mexico City.

Language

Who you get

Vetted officers with police, military or federal service backgrounds, working in Spanish and English, with female officers for family movement and further languages on request.

What We Arrange

Bodyguard services in Guadalajara.

Officers

Authorised Mexican officers

Vetted officers of authorised Mexican companies, NDA-bound and briefed to the Algoz standard. They read as an assistant or a colleague, inside the venue rather than at the door.

Drivers

Security drivers

The first purchase in this city, and often the only one. A trained driver who knows the alternates and when not to stop. See executive transportation.

Vehicles

Armoured or soft-skin

Armoured saloons and SUVs from registered providers, specified to the brief rather than by habit. A soft-skin car is often the quieter choice.

Executive

Plant and campus visits

Board visits, due diligence and site days across the technology campuses of Zapopan and the industrial parks of El Salto and Tlajomulco.

Family

Families and relocation

School runs, residence assessment in gated Zapopan colonias, and female officers where the family prefers them. The nearest private hospital is mapped before the first day.

Concierge

Concierge and security

Tables, private access, hotels and aviation handling arranged by the house that protects you, because the reservation and the route are the same decision.

Zapopan, Andares & the colonias where you will actually be

Zapopan holds much of the city’s corporate and hotel life. Andares and the towers of Puerta de Hierro form its centre, around the Hyatt Regency Andares. Providencia and Chapalita are the residential and dining streets. Lafayette and Colonia Americana, with Casa Habita, Hotel Demetria and Avenida Chapultepec, are the evening quarter. The Centro and Tlaquepaque are walking crowds, worked on foot with the car close. The work is arrivals and departures: the car positioned so the pavement is a few steps, the officer inside the restaurant rather than at the door, the table chosen with the exit in mind.

Arriving: GDL, the private terminal & the airport road

Guadalajara International sits in Tlajomulco, about 17 km south-east of the centre and 20 to 35 minutes by car. It handled 18.7 million passengers in 2025, the third-busiest airport in Mexico. Private flights use the FBO side: in April 2026 Universal Aviation, now rebranding as Affinity Aviation, inaugurated a purpose-built FBO and general aviation terminal with onsite customs and immigration and a 5,000-square-metre hangar. We meet you inside the terminal or on the private side, the FBO rather than the kerb, with the luggage counted and a vetted car waiting. No hailed taxi, no application. The route is chosen on the day, in daylight where the schedule allows.

The Jalisco picture, told honestly

The Jalisco New Generation Cartel, the CJNG, emerged in this state around 2009 to 2010, and we do not write around it. On 22 February 2026 the military killed its leader at Tapalpa. Roadblocks and a state Code Red followed. The airports stayed open, but at least 237 flights were cancelled across four airports in the first day. Roadblocks had thinned by the 23rd, the Code Red was lifted on the 24th and the US staff curfew late on the 25th. The United States rates all of Jalisco Level 3, Reconsider Travel. The state reports falling homicides, its figures are contested and do not capture disappearances, and most adults in Guadalajara still consider their city unsafe. We cannot manage the state. We can manage the car, the route, the routine and the hour. The provider matters as much. In 2016 prosecutors said a company advertising as a security firm was recruiting for the cartel. It does not describe today’s registered firms, but it is why a state-registered company counts, and a website that says licensed does not.

How a Guadalajara detail is actually run

It starts with the diary, never with a headcount. We read the dates, the venues, the profile and the roads, then propose the smallest team that genuinely covers the brief, whether that is a security driver alone, an officer with a driver, or a second vehicle for a higher profile or a plant run. A security driver comes before a second officer, because on these roads the car does most of the work. Departure times and the run between Zapopan and the plants vary through the week, every venue from Andares to the Expo is checked before you arrive, and the family is briefed on virtual kidnapping calls, which rely on panic and fail against one number to ring. One contact stays with the engagement from proposal to departure.

Beyond the city: Chapala, Tequila, the plants & the coast

Lake Chapala is about 45 km from the centre and Ajijic 55 km, home to a long-established community of US and Canadian residents. Canada excepts the Chapala area from its Michoacán border warning, but the UK advises against all but essential travel south and south-west of the lake, so anything beyond the north shore is a separate conversation. Tequila lies about 60 km out inside the UNESCO agave landscape, and the Jose Cuervo Express tourist train runs from the city on set dates. The industrial corridors of El Salto and Tlajomulco are a routine we vary, and rural Jalisco, Guachimontones included, is assessed before we agree to it. Puerto Vallarta is about 310 km, nearly four hours by autopista: a route assessed leg by leg rather than a highway assumed, and often replaced by a flight.

The calendar: FIL, the Romería & Expo weeks

FIL, the Guadalajara International Book Fair, fills Expo Guadalajara from 28 November to 6 December 2026 with Italy as guest of honour, then from 27 November to 5 December 2027 with the city of Buenos Aires. It is described as the largest book fair in the Americas, and that week books out far earlier. On 12 October the Romería carries the Virgin 9.2 km from the Cathedral to the Basilica of Zapopan, with more than two million people and road and light-rail closures along the route. The Fiestas de Octubre fill the same month.

November to February

Dry and cool

The easiest protection weather, with cool nights at 1,566 metres.

March

The film festival

The Guadalajara International Film Festival runs from 6 to 13 March 2027 with Panama as guest of honour. Entrances are walked before the first screening.

Heat and trade weeks

May is the hottest month, with highs around 32 to 33 degrees. Expo trade weeks keep Avenida Mariano Otero busy, so timings need care.

June to September

Afternoon storms

The rainy season, with July the wettest month. Storms arrive in the afternoon and low roads can flood, so long movements belong in the morning.

October

Fiestas and the Romería

The Fiestas de Octubre run through the month. On 12 October more than two million people are on the route from the Cathedral to Zapopan, and closures follow.

Late November to early December

FIL

Professional-only hours run from 30 November to 2 December 2026, 9h00 to 17h00. Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants holds its 2026 ceremony in Guadalajara on 1 December.

How It Works

The brief, the read, the officer, the car, the day.

Step 01

The brief, under NDA

Dates, profile, hotel, venues and arrival, held under NDA before a name is shared.

Step 02

The read

We read the diary and the roads, then tell you honestly whether you need an officer, a driver or both.

Step 03

The officer

Vetted, in Spanish and English, male or female, matched to the brief. You see the profile before anyone is deployed.

Step 04

The car

Soft-skin or armoured, specified to the brief, with the route confirmed before the first movement.

Step 05

The day

Present where the exposure sits: the airport, the hotel door, the road, the fair. Invisible everywhere else.

Step 06

One contact

One coordinator for the officer, the driver and the concierge side, through to the next city.

Indicative Investment

What protection in Guadalajara costs.

Close protection in Guadalajara is from USD 750 per day for one officer on twelve-hour cover. A security driver and an armoured vehicle are each quoted as their own line, one figure per line, confirmed before you pay.

Armed requirements and multi-vehicle teams sit above the base and are quoted to the brief. Armed authorisation needs a minimum 30-day lead time and may be refused. Further reading: what a bodyguard costs, our full close protection pricing guide and how a security driver works.

Jalisco Legal Framework

Why protection in Guadalajara must be licensed.

Private security in Mexico is governed by the Federal Private Security Law, and companies working in two or more states are authorised by the federal Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana. In Jalisco a provider also needs authorisation from, or registration with, the Consejo Estatal de Seguridad Pública, and close protection of persons needs specific state approval.

Authorised providers must be Mexican, a foreign officer cannot work a detail or carry a weapon in Mexico, and unauthorised providers operate outside the law and face sanctions. Algoz coordinates only inside this framework. See how our close protection works and bodyguard laws by country.

When to Hire

The moments that call for protection in Guadalajara.

Business travel is the quieter category: plant and design-centre visits, due diligence and relocations, where the value is the driver and the route. FIL week and the Romería are the crowd peaks.

Airport arrivals and evening movement in Lafayette and Providencia benefit from a security driver even on a short stay. Families posted to Zapopan keep their rhythm while someone else manages the routes around them.

Good to Know

Bodyguard in Guadalajara: frequently asked questions

How much does a bodyguard in Guadalajara cost?

From USD 750 per day for one officer on twelve-hour cover, with the final rate shaped by the profile, the districts and the dates, and confirmed on enquiry with no obligation. A security driver and an armoured vehicle are each quoted as their own line, one figure per line, confirmed before you pay.

Is it legal to hire a bodyguard in Guadalajara and Jalisco?

Yes, through authorised companies. The Federal Private Security Law applies to companies working in two or more states, which the Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana authorises. In Jalisco a provider also needs authorisation by or registration with the Consejo Estatal de Seguridad Pública, and close protection of persons needs specific state approval. Authorised providers must be Mexican, and a foreign officer cannot work a detail or carry a weapon in Mexico. In September 2026 the state counted 289 registered companies and about 10,500 guards. About 850 of them, across 35 companies, may carry, because a security company may be armed only under a collective firearms licence from the defence ministry.

Can my bodyguard be armed in Guadalajara?

Armed protection exists in Mexico only through Mexican companies holding a collective firearms licence from the defence ministry. It needs a minimum 30-day lead time for authorisation, may be refused, costs more and is never promised. For most visits a low-profile, well-driven detail is the better answer.

How quickly can you put a bodyguard in place in Guadalajara?

We ask for at least seven days. Shorter notice is looked at case by case. Under 48 hours carries an urgency fee and is not guaranteed. FIL week and the days around the Romería book out far earlier.

Is Guadalajara safe for business travellers, families and executives?

There is no honest one-word answer. The United States rates all of Jalisco Level 3, Reconsider Travel. In September 2026 INEGI found that 80 percent of adults in Guadalajara and 57.2 percent in Zapopan considered their city unsafe, against 58.1 percent nationally. The state reports about 41 percent fewer intentional homicides in the first half of 2026 than a year earlier, though those counts do not capture disappearances. Incidents have occurred in the best districts, and they are not the daily experience of most visitors.

What happened in Guadalajara in February 2026, and does it still affect a visit?

On 22 February 2026 the Mexican military killed the leader of the CJNG at Tapalpa, in Jalisco. Roadblocks and a state Code Red followed, and flights were cancelled while the airports stayed open. Roadblocks had thinned by 23 February, the Code Red was lifted on 24 February and the US staff curfew late on 25 February. One international risk firm then advised secure transport, overland movement in daylight and avoiding rural Jalisco. The lasting lesson is practical: a plan needs an alternate route, a place to hold and one person deciding.

Can you meet us at Guadalajara International Airport or at the private aviation terminal?

Yes. We meet you inside the commercial terminal or on the private aviation side, including the FBO and general aviation terminal inaugurated in April 2026 by Universal Aviation, now rebranding as Affinity Aviation. Your charter operator chooses the handler and we work to it. The luggage is counted, a vetted car and driver are waiting, and the route is chosen on the day.

Do you cover Zapopan, Andares, Puerta de Hierro, Providencia and Chapalita?

Yes. Those are the districts most visitors actually use, along with Lafayette, Colonia Americana, the Expo and the Centro Histórico. Timings and the car's position are set venue by venue.

Do you cover the FIL book fair, Expo Guadalajara trade weeks and the Fiestas de Octubre?

Yes. FIL runs from 28 November to 6 December 2026 and from 27 November to 5 December 2027, and that week books out far earlier. We walk the entrances, plan around the professional hours and hold the car where it can reach you. On 12 October the Romería puts more than two million people on the route to Zapopan, with road and light-rail closures.

Can the same team take us to Lake Chapala, Ajijic and Tequila?

Yes, as a planned day and after the road is assessed. Chapala and Ajijic are about 45 to 55 km from the centre and Tequila about 60 km. Canada excepts the Lake Chapala area from its Michoacán border warning, while the UK advises against all but essential travel south and south-west of the lake, so we keep to the north shore and assess anything beyond it.

Is it advisable to drive from Guadalajara to Puerto Vallarta with a protection detail?

It depends on the leg, the day and the hour, so we assess it leg by leg rather than assume a highway. Puerto Vallarta is about 310 km and nearly four hours by autopista, and a flight often replaces the drive. British and Canadian advice favours toll roads and daylight and warns of illegal roadblocks, and we check the route against the current British list of restricted municipalities.

Do I need an armoured car in Guadalajara?

Not always. For a short visit between a Zapopan hotel, an office and the airport, a vetted security driver in a soft-skin vehicle is often the proportionate answer. An armoured vehicle suits higher profiles, longer routes, repeated routines and residents, and is quoted as its own line. Driven badly, it protects nobody.

Do you work with families and executives relocating to Guadalajara?

Yes. For a posting to Zapopan or Providencia we look at the residence, the household routines, the school run and the nearest private hospital. The family is briefed on express kidnapping and on virtual kidnapping, which is extortion by telephone with nobody taken.

Do you have female officers and English-speaking officers in Guadalajara?

Yes. Female officers are available for family movement, for women travelling alone and for principals who simply prefer it. Officers and security drivers assigned to international principals work in Spanish and English, and further languages can be arranged with notice.

Why use Algoz rather than hiring a Guadalajara security company directly?

Because from the outside a principal has no reliable way to separate a properly authorised, well-run firm from one that merely claims to be, and Jalisco has removed firms from its register for irregularities. Algoz does that filtering, matches the team to your profile, places every officer under NDA and gives you one accountable contact. If nobody genuinely fits, we say so.

I am an executive assistant booking protection for a principal visiting Guadalajara. How does that work?

You brief once and keep one contact. You receive a written proposal, the vehicle specification and a single number for changes; the officer and driver profiles follow once the engagement is confirmed and under NDA. Nothing about the principal is shared with a supplier beyond what the work requires.

A Trusted Single Point of Contact

Close protection, handled by one accountable team in Guadalajara.

Principals and the people who plan for them - executive assistants, personal assistants, chiefs of staff, family offices and the agencies and producers who book on a client’s behalf - brief Algoz once and we coordinate the rest. We speak the operational language of security leads and the discretion language of private offices, so nothing is lost in translation between the two.

Every detail in Guadalajara is delivered by accredited, locally licensed close protection officers (male and female), armoured transport where the threat picture warrants it, and 24/7 operations - coordinated and quality-controlled by Algoz under NDA. UHNWI and HNWI principals, royal and family offices, executives, celebrities and public figures rely on Algoz as a credible, trustworthy first call.
