Tokyo

The largest city on earth behaves like a collection of villages, and the difference between a good week and a wasted one is knowing which. Ginza for the counters and the jewellers, Aoyama and Omotesando for the ateliers, Nihonbashi for the old houses, Roppongi and Azabu for residences and the art. We hold the reservations, place a car and driver on the diary rather than on a schedule, and arrange the parts of Tokyo that never appear in a guide: a private view before opening, a workshop with a master craftsman, ringside seats at the Kokugikan when the tournament is in town.

Kyoto & Nara

Kyoto is the reason most first visits happen and the place most first visits get wrong, because the famous temples are best at hours the crowds do not keep. We arrange early or after-hours access where it is genuinely possible, tea ceremony with a practising family rather than a performance, geiko and maiko engagements in Gion arranged properly through the okiya, and machiya townhouses with a housekeeper. Nara, the Fushimi hillside and the Uji tea houses sit within the same brief, and the moment the maples turn or the blossom opens, everything is planned months ahead.

Osaka & the Kansai

Osaka is where Japan relaxes: a city that takes its food seriously and its formality lightly. Kappo counters and kushikatsu rooms in Kitashinchi, the canal and castle at night, and a base that puts Kyoto, Nara, Kobe beef country and the Koyasan temple lodgings inside an easy day. Kansai International handles the arrivals, and for principals combining business in Osaka with a family week afterwards, the two halves are planned as one itinerary rather than two bookings.

Okinawa & the southern islands

Okinawa is a different country in every sense that matters: subtropical, Ryukyu rather than mainland, and built around the water. The Kerama Islands hold some of the clearest water in Asia and the manta season off Ishigaki draws divers who have dived everywhere else. We arrange private dive guides and boat charters, resort villas and beach houses on Miyako and Iriomote, whale watching in the winter months, and the inter-island flights and ferries that make the archipelago work. Certified or first-time, the diving is matched to the guest rather than to a group.

Mount Fuji, Hakone & the mountains

Fuji is best seen from the places that are not photographing it: a ryokan terrace in Hakone with the mountain across the water, the Fuji Five Lakes early enough that the air is still clear, a private onsen on a cold morning. Further north, Hokkaido changes the country entirely. Niseko and Furano hold the snow the world flies in for, and the same island gives you Sapporo, the Shiretoko coast and summer weeks with nobody on the roads. Winter is booked a year ahead by people who know; we book it a year ahead too.

When to go, and what it costs you to be late

Spring

Cherry Blossom

Late March into April, moving south to north over a few weeks. The best rooms and tables are taken six to twelve months ahead, and the front never waits for a diary.

Summer

Festivals & Islands

Gion Matsuri in July, Tenjin in Osaka, fireworks along the rivers. Hot in the cities, which is when Hokkaido and the southern islands earn their place.

Autumn

Koyo

Late October into early December, the quieter equal of the blossom. Kyoto, Nikko and the mountain temples at their best and their busiest.

Winter

Snow & Onsen

Niseko and Hokkaido from December, snow monkeys in Nagano, and the onsen season when an outdoor bath in falling snow is the entire point of the trip.

Diving

Okinawa Season

Warm water from spring through autumn, manta encounters off Ishigaki in the summer months, and humpbacks around the Keramas in winter.

Where a specific room genuinely cannot be opened, we say so and propose something we believe is its equal rather than a substitute.

How far in advance should Japan be planned?

For cherry blossom season, the autumn colours, Golden Week or the Niseko ski season, six to twelve months is realistic for the best rooms. Outside those windows, a few weeks is usually workable, and short-notice requests are handled where the market allows.

Do you arrange diving in Okinawa?

Yes. Private dive guides, boat charters and resort villas across Okinawa, the Kerama Islands, Ishigaki, Miyako and Iriomote, with the season matched to what the guest wants to see - manta encounters in the summer months, humpbacks around the Keramas in winter. Certified divers and complete beginners are both accommodated, privately rather than in a group.

Can you arrange a ryokan with a private onsen?

Yes. Ryokan with in-room or private open-air baths in Hakone, Kinosaki, Beppu, Kusatsu and the Hokkaido onsen towns. These houses are small and loyal to returning guests, so the date usually decides what is possible more than the budget does.

Do you provide bodyguards or close protection in Japan?

Yes. Private security in Japan is regulated under the Security Services Act and is unarmed; every officer we coordinate works within that framework. Do you work with assistants and family offices?

Constantly. Most Japan briefs reach us from executive assistants, personal assistants, chiefs of staff and family offices rather than the principal directly. We work at their cadence: one brief, structured confirmations, and full confidentiality under NDA from the first message.

Is language a problem outside the big cities?

It can be, which is exactly where a coordinator earns their place. Outside Tokyo and Kyoto, English is limited and the best small houses operate entirely in Japanese. Our guides and coordinators negotiate in Japanese, handle the introductions and stay reachable throughout, so the principal never has to manage it.
