Can you hire a bodyguard in Boston?

Yes, and within Massachusetts’s licensing system it is entirely lawful. Algoz arranges a licensed close protection officer who meets you inside Logan or on the ramp at Hanscom Field, a security driver who knows which of the three harbour tunnels serves the Seaport and which strands you in the North End, and the same team stays with you through the hotel, the hospital, the campus visit and the evening, with an officer who reads as a driver or an assistant rather than security, because in Boston that is what families and patients want. Send your dates and your hotel and a confidential proposal follows within 24 hours, with the officer profile and the final rate, and no obligation attached.

Straight Answers

What people ask before enquiring.

Legality

Is it legal?

Yes. Private security in Massachusetts is a licensed business under Chapter 147 of the General Laws: watch, guard or patrol agencies are licensed by the State Police, with a bond and a Massachusetts address, and their officers are vetted and trained. Algoz coordinates only within that framework.

Cost

What it costs

Priced to the profile and the itinerary. Boston is a medical and academic market first, and most briefs are met by one low-profile officer and a security driver; Marathon week, commencement and the summer on the Cape carry a premium. The final rate comes with the proposal; an idea of day rates is in the FAQ below.

Speed

How fast

Plan on seven days. Vetting the brief, releasing the right officer and completing the advance work takes that long. Under 48 hours means additional fees and no guarantee of cover.

Weapons

Armed or unarmed

Boston details run unarmed. Massachusetts has some of the strictest firearms laws in the country, an armed officer needs a licence to carry and Boston requires armed guards in public places to register; armed cover is rarely practical for a visiting principal and we say so plainly. A skilled unarmed officer and a security driver are the right answer here.

Coverage

Where we cover

Back Bay, Beacon Hill, the South End, the Seaport and the North End first, with Cambridge, Brookline and Chestnut Hill across the river. Then Wellesley, Weston and the western suburbs, Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, Newport, the Berkshires and the Maine coast, with the same contact and the same brief.

Language

Who you get

Vetted Massachusetts officers, many from the military, the Boston and State Police, federal law enforcement and hospital and university security, working in English, with Spanish and Arabic speakers available. Coordination in Portuguese, Chinese, French and Russian, and the written day plan in your language on request.

The Hub

The medical and academic capital of America, on streets laid out before the car.

Boston is where the world comes to be treated and to be educated. The hospitals of the Longwood Medical Area and the West End, Massachusetts General, Brigham and Women’s, Dana-Farber and Boston Children’s among them, draw patients and their families from the Gulf, Asia, Latin America and Europe for weeks and months at a time; Harvard, MIT and the other universities draw their sons and daughters for years; and the biotechnology companies of Kendall Square, the funds and the law firms of the Financial District and the Back Bay draw the executives. It is one of the safest large cities in America and one of the most comfortable: the brick lanes of Beacon Hill, the hotels of the Back Bay, the boutiques of Newbury Street, the North End and the newer towers of the Seaport. It is also a pre-automobile city, which shapes every protective decision: short angled one-ways downtown, a harbour between the airport and everything else, three tunnels that do not serve the same places, resident-permit parking on almost every curb, and a winter that brings plough banks, snow emergency parking bans and closed side streets from December to March.

Algoz coordinates bodyguard services in Boston through vetted, Massachusetts-licensed operators with genuine local knowledge: officers who know which Longwood entrance a patient can actually be set down at and for how long a vehicle may stand there, how Harvard and MIT control their own approaches, which Beacon Hill streets a full-size SUV should never attempt, how Marathon Monday cuts the city in half and what the Cape bridges do on a summer Friday. Our clients are patients and families at the hospitals, parents of students at the universities, executives and delegations from the Gulf, Asia and Europe at the biotechnology companies and the funds, families in residence in Brookline, Chestnut Hill or Wellesley, owners on Nantucket and the Vineyard for the summer, and the hospital international offices, family offices and chiefs of staff who book for all of them. The brief is given once; from the aircraft steps to the last dinner, one team plans, drives and covers it, quietly, because in this city a visible detail is the one thing a family does not want.

The Security Environment

Why hire a bodyguard in Boston?

Medical

The Patient and the Family

A family at the hospital for weeks is tired, worried and far from home, on a campus built for ambulances rather than arriving cars, and approached by unlicensed facilitators, fake interpreters and fraud that uses the family’s name and hospital. A quiet officer and a held vehicle are the answer.

Students

The Son or Daughter Far from Home

A student from a known family at Harvard, MIT or the universities is visible in a way the student rarely notices, from the car to the apartment to the social media account. Low-profile cover that the student’s friends never register is a Boston speciality.

Street

Downtown Crossing & the Corridors

Boston’s small share of street disorder sits around Downtown Crossing, the stations and the South End’s troubled blocks near the medical area, where the opioid crisis is visible. Most encounters are harmless; the unpredictable ones are what a calm, trained presence is for.

Profile

Visible Wealth

Newbury Street, the Copley boutiques and the jewellers of the Back Bay are where serious pieces are bought and worn, and the hotels of the Back Bay and the restaurants of the Seaport are where a recognisable face is read at a glance. The walk back to the car on a one-way street is where it matters.

Season

Marathon Monday, Commencement & the Cape

Patriots’ Day in April closes a line from the suburbs into Boylston Street, commencement fills May with family groups, the Head of the Charles takes an October weekend, and the Cape bridges turn a ninety-minute drive into three hours on a summer Friday.

Winter

Snow & Parking Bans

From December to March, storms bring plough banks, snow emergency parking bans and closed side streets, and the walk from a Beacon Hill door to a vehicle becomes the exposure. Vehicle choice, tyres and departure times are set against the forecast rather than the calendar.

Massachusetts-licensed, utterly discreet

Bodyguard Services in Boston

CPOs

Licensed Officers

Licensed close protection officers with military, Boston and State Police, federal and hospital and university security backgrounds, dressed for a Back Bay lobby rather than a checkpoint, NDA-bound, briefed to our standard and supervised throughout.

Transport

Secure Transportation

Executive sedans and SUVs sized to the streets you are actually collecting from, on winter tyres in season, with security-trained drivers who know the tunnels and the one-ways and a vehicle positioned where it may legally stand on a city where almost every curb is permit parking.

Medical

Hospital & Clinical Protection

A patient and a family at Longwood, Mass General or Children’s for weeks: the early appointment, the specific entrance, a driver who waits for hours without being asked, a residence for the duration and the hospital’s international office in the loop.

Students

Student & Family Protection

Low-profile cover for a son or daughter at Harvard, MIT, Boston University, Northeastern or the schools: the apartment surveyed, the routine understood, a presence the student’s friends never register, and a parent who sleeps at night in Riyadh, Lagos or Shanghai.

Business

Executive & Delegation Protection

Board visits, biotechnology and fund meetings in Kendall Square and the Back Bay, the convention floor in the Seaport and the university events, with credentials and access arranged before the morning begins and the itinerary kept under NDA.

Residence

Residence & Hotel Security

Suites at the Four Seasons, the Mandarin Oriental, the Newbury, the Boston Harbor Hotel and the Ritz-Carlton, apartments in the Back Bay and the Seaport, houses on Beacon Hill, in Brookline, Chestnut Hill and Wellesley, and summer houses on the Cape and the islands, from a single overnight to a standing detail.

01 —

Longwood, Mass General & the appointment that cannot slip

A large share of our Boston work begins at a hospital. The Longwood Medical Area, dense with teaching hospitals and research institutes, Massachusetts General in the West End and Boston Children’s draw patients from the Gulf, Asia, Latin America and Europe for the kind of treatment that takes weeks, and the family that comes with them has requirements unlike anyone else’s. Appointments are early, the campus is built for pedestrians and ambulances rather than arriving cars, there is almost nowhere for a vehicle to stand, a missed slot can cost days, and the family is tired, worried and far from home. What works is an officer who reads as a driver or an assistant rather than as security, a vehicle held for the day rather than summoned for each leg, familiarity with the specific building and the specific entrance where a patient can be set down, patience to wait several hours, a residence for the duration in the Back Bay or Brookline where the family can feel ordinary, and the hospital’s international patient office in the loop rather than in the dark. Around it sit the exposures that target patients: the unlicensed facilitator, the fake interpreter, the rental and telephone scams that use the family’s name and hospital. Female officers are often the right choice for these days. See medical travel protection.

02 —

Harvard, MIT & the son or daughter far from home

Boston educates the children of the world, and a student from a known family at Harvard, MIT, Boston University, Northeastern, Tufts or one of the schools is visible in a way the student rarely notices: the car, the apartment, the friends, the social media account, the name on a class list, the parent who is in the news at home. Parents in the Gulf, Nigeria, India, China and Latin America ask for one thing, which is to sleep at night, and the answer is a Boston speciality: low-profile cover that the student’s friends never register, an apartment in Cambridge or the Back Bay surveyed before the lease is signed, the routine understood and the risks in it named, a driver for the hours that matter, a plan for the weekend that goes wrong, and a coordinator who speaks to the parent in Arabic, Portuguese or Chinese and to the student in the language of a twenty-year-old. The licensing is the same as for any other detail; the discretion is greater, because a visible officer on a campus is the fastest way to make a student’s life impossible. See student protection abroad.

03 —

Logan, Hanscom & the three tunnels

Logan International is unusually close to the city it serves and unusually awkward to leave, because it sits across the harbour from everything. Three tunnels connect it to the mainland and they do not serve the same places: one carries you toward the Seaport, the turnpike and points west, another into the older downtown and the North End, and the third the other way entirely; choose badly and a fifteen-minute run becomes forty with no opportunity to correct it. The international arrivals hall at Terminal E fills in waves as the European and Gulf flights land within minutes of each other. We plan the arrival out of existence: the inbound tracked live, a meet inside the terminal, luggage handled and counted, a vehicle staged so the walk is seconds, and the tunnel chosen for the destination rather than the habit. Principals arriving by private aircraft generally do not use Logan: Hanscom Field, north-west of the city near Bedford and Lexington, is New England’s principal business aviation airport and the better arrival for Cambridge, Concord, Weston and Wellesley, because it avoids the harbour crossings altogether; Norwood Memorial covers the south-west. Each has its own handling agents and its own view on how close a vehicle may come to an aircraft, and our coordinator speaks to your handler directly rather than through you. See executive transportation in Boston.

04 —

Back Bay, Beacon Hill & the last hundred metres

Most of our Boston principals stay, dine and negotiate inside a small area: the Four Seasons on the Public Garden and its newer sister at One Dalton, the Mandarin Oriental and the Newbury in the Back Bay, the Boston Harbor Hotel on the water, the residences of Beacon Hill and the South End, the restaurants of the North End and the newer towers of the Seaport. It is also where a vehicle has the least freedom. The Back Bay is one of the few genuinely gridded parts of the city and still runs mostly one way; Beacon Hill is cobbled, steep and narrow enough that a large SUV becomes an embarrassment; the North End streets were laid out for handcarts; and almost every curb in between is resident-permit parking with active enforcement. A detail here is quiet choreography: arrival timing agreed with the hotel’s own security, the floor and the lift planned, the vehicle held on the one block where it may actually stand, a shopping afternoon on Newbury Street handled by private appointment, and the evening in the North End covered by an officer who sits where the approaches are visible and knows which alley leads to which street.

05 —

Kendall Square, the funds & business Boston

Business Boston very often crosses the river and comes back. Kendall Square and the Cambridge campuses hold the biotechnology and technology companies that bring executives and investors from Asia, Europe and the Gulf for board weeks, partnerships and acquisitions; the Financial District and the Back Bay hold the funds, the family offices and the law firms; and the Seaport holds the convention floor and the newer headquarters. The bridges are few and the approaches congest predictably, so a day that touches Kendall Square in the morning, Longwood at midday and the Seaport in the evening is common and never a straight line. Protective work here is measured in discretion rather than presence: an officer who reads as staff in a lift lobby, credentials and campus access arranged before the day begins, a security driver who turns the bridge crossings into working time, and device and conversation discipline treated as part of the detail, because in a partnership or acquisition week the itinerary itself is a leak. For a delegation, the vehicles, the officers and the hotel floor are planned as one programme rather than booked as a stack.

06 —

Cape Cod, Nantucket, the Vineyard & the summer

A Boston summer rarely stays in Boston. The Cape fills from June, and the two bridges onto it are a genuine bottleneck that turns a ninety-minute drive into three hours on a Friday afternoon and back again on Sunday evening; Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard are reached by ferry from Hyannis and Woods Hole or by air, and the connection has to be planned as one movement rather than two; Newport, the Berkshires in concert season and the Maine coast are regular work. The houses on Nantucket and the Vineyard, the estates in Osterville and Chatham and the Newport mansions are secluded by design, with seasonal staff, open gardens and a season when everyone knows who is in residence, and the brief changes with them: the beach, the yacht club, the children on bicycles, the dinner in town and a residence where the island’s own calm is a baseline rather than an answer. The same team follows the principal, the vehicle travels on the ferry or meets the aircraft, and the officer walks, drives or waits on the dock as the day requires. For a family, the summer is the part of the year the children remember, and the part where someone else watches the beach and the gate.

07 —

How a Boston detail is actually run

It starts with your itinerary, not with a headcount. We read the dates, the profile, the hotel or the residence, the hospital or the campus and the season, then propose the smallest team that genuinely covers it: most often one low-profile officer with a security driver, sometimes a two-officer rotation for a commencement weekend or a delegation, occasionally a full detail with advance work at every venue and a Cape or island leg. Every officer works for a Massachusetts-licensed agency, is NDA-bound and briefed to the Algoz standard; every hotel, residence, hospital building and campus approach is walked before you arrive; the vehicle is sized to the streets and the month; and one Algoz contact stays with the engagement from proposal to the departure flight, so you are never managing an unfamiliar vendor in an unfamiliar city. The proposal, the schedule and the written day plan are provided in Arabic, Portuguese, Chinese, Spanish, French or Russian on request. How close protection works.

08 —

Beyond Boston: New York, Washington & the corridor south

A great many Boston engagements continue south. The corridor through Providence and New Haven to New York is an afternoon by road or by train, with the officer in the carriage and the vehicle positioned at the far end, and Washington follows for a family with a delegation to attend or a second hospital to see. Road is frequently the better answer than a short flight: door to door, luggage travelling with you, no terminal and no baggage hall. It also introduces variables a city transfer does not, and each is planned rather than accepted: driver hours, rest planning, overnight positioning and a new state’s licence at the line. For itineraries continuing to New York, Washington, Miami or London, the handover happens inside Algoz, not on your desk.

Massachusetts Licensing (Chapter 147)

Why protection in Boston must be licensed.

Private security in Massachusetts is regulated under Chapter 147 of the General Laws: a business that provides watch, guard or patrol services for hire must hold a watch, guard or patrol agency licence issued by the State Police, with a surety bond, a Massachusetts address and background checks on its principals, and its officers are vetted and trained to the standards the licence and the industry set. Firearms are a separate and restrictive matter: Massachusetts has some of the strictest firearms laws in the country, an armed officer needs a licence to carry, and the City of Boston requires armed guards working in public places to register. Armed private protection is rarely practical for a visiting principal here, and we say so. An unlicensed individual cannot lawfully provide protective services for hire in Massachusetts, and a bodyguard brought from the Gulf, Asia or Europe cannot simply work here; engaging outside the licensed framework exposes a principal to legal risk and voids meaningful liability cover.

Algoz coordinates protection in Boston exclusively through this licensed framework, with every operative vetted, NDA-bound and discreet. See how our close protection works, read the state-by-state guide to protection in the USA, combine it with medical travel protection, student protection and VIP concierge across the United States, add secure transport in Boston, or extend to New York and Washington.

When to Hire

The moments that specifically call for protection in Boston.

A medical stay at Longwood, Mass General or Children’s is the Boston category: a family in the city for weeks, early appointments on a campus with nowhere to stand, a residence for the duration, and the fraud that targets exactly that family. A school year for a son or daughter at Harvard, MIT or the universities is the other: low-profile cover and a parent who sleeps at night. Commencement in May fills the city with family groups, elderly relatives and luggage at the same hours; Marathon Monday in April cuts the city in half; the Head of the Charles takes an October weekend.

A partnership or acquisition week in Kendall Square is the quiet category, where confidentiality matters more than presence. The summer on the Cape and the islands, a storm week in winter, residential stays in Brookline, Chestnut Hill and Wellesley, the shopping afternoon on Newbury Street and the arrival at Logan with the wrong tunnel round out the moments where even a short stay benefits from an officer and a security driver. And for families, the practical value is simple: the children see the Common and the harbour while someone else watches everything approaching them.

What a bodyguard in Boston costs.

As a guide, professional close protection in the United States is, in 2026, from USD 900 per day for a single principal on twelve-hour cover, the market base, with the final rate shaped by the profile, the threat picture and the season, and confirmed on enquiry with no obligation. Specialist profiles, short-notice mobilisation, Marathon week, commencement and the summer on the Cape and the islands carry a premium; long medical stays and school years are quoted as a programme rather than as days. A security driver with an executive vehicle is quoted separately and, in a city of tunnels, one-ways and permit parking, is usually the most useful addition; team details and multi-city programmes are quoted above the base, to the brief. Payment is by card or bank transfer in USD, EUR, GBP or AED.

Bodyguard in Boston - Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a bodyguard in Boston cost?

As a guide, professional close protection in the United States starts from USD 900 per day for one officer covering a single principal on twelve hours, with the final rate shaped by the profile, the season and the brief. A security driver with an executive vehicle is quoted separately and, in a city of tunnels, one-ways and permit parking, is usually the most useful addition. Specialist profiles, short-notice mobilisation, Marathon week, commencement and the summer on the Cape and the islands carry a premium, and long medical stays and school years are quoted as a programme. Multi-city itineraries are quoted as one programme, and the final rate is always confirmed on enquiry, with no obligation. Payment is by card or bank transfer.

Why use Algoz rather than hiring a local security company in Boston directly?

Massachusetts has a well-regulated security industry built mostly for the hospitals, the universities, the buildings and the events, and only a handful of its licensed agencies do genuine low-profile close protection to an international standard with the discretion a patient’s family or a student’s parents expect. From Riyadh, Lagos, Shanghai or São Paulo they all look the same, and the difference only shows once a detail is moving between Logan, a Longwood entrance and a Beacon Hill street in a February storm. Algoz has already made the comparison, keeps only the Massachusetts providers that met our standard on live assignments, composes the team for your profile, puts it under NDA, works with the hospital’s international office or the university rather than around them, supervises it against our own doctrine and answers to you as a single point of accountability, in your language.

Is it legal to hire a bodyguard in Boston, and is it licensed?

Yes. Private security in Massachusetts is a licensed business under Chapter 147 of the General Laws: watch, guard or patrol agencies are licensed by the State Police, with a surety bond, a Massachusetts address and background checks on their principals, and their officers are vetted and trained. Algoz coordinates only properly licensed agencies, so your detail is fully compliant.

Can protection be armed in Boston?

Rarely. Massachusetts has some of the strictest firearms laws in the country, an armed officer needs a licence to carry, and Boston requires armed guards working in public places to register, which makes armed private protection impractical for a visiting principal in almost every case. Every Boston assignment we run is unarmed, built on planning, a skilled driver and a discreet presence, and for this city that is the right answer; we say so plainly rather than promise otherwise.

Do you provide protection for patients at the Boston hospitals?

Yes, and it is one of the largest parts of our Boston work. A patient and a family at Longwood, Massachusetts General, Brigham and Women’s, Dana-Farber or Boston Children’s for weeks is a quiet brief with a different rhythm: an officer who reads as a driver or an assistant, a vehicle held for the day, familiarity with the specific building and the entrance where a patient can be set down, patience to wait several hours, a residence for the duration, the hospital’s international patient office in the loop, and awareness of the fraud that targets exactly that family. Female officers are often the right choice. See our medical travel protection page.

Do you provide protection for students at Harvard, MIT and the Boston universities?

Yes, and it is a Boston speciality. A student from a known family is visible in a way the student rarely notices, and the answer is low-profile cover that the student’s friends never register: the apartment surveyed before the lease, the routine understood, a driver for the hours that matter, a plan for the weekend that goes wrong, and a coordinator who speaks to the parent in Arabic, Portuguese or Chinese. A visible officer on a campus is the fastest way to make a student’s life impossible, so there is never one. See our student protection page.

Do you work with clients from the Gulf, Asia, Africa and Latin America?

Yes, every week. Boston draws patients and families from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait, students and families from China, India, Korea, Nigeria and across the world, and executives from Europe, Asia and the Gulf to the biotechnology companies and the funds. Enquiries, proposals, the schedule and the written day plan are handled in Arabic, Portuguese, Chinese, Spanish, French or Russian on request. Officers work in English, with Spanish and Arabic speakers available; officers in other languages can be requested with notice, though we never guarantee one.

Is a security driver included?

Usually, yes. Logan sits across the harbour from everything, three tunnels serve three different destinations, the downtown is a pre-automobile grid of short one-ways, Beacon Hill defeats a full-size SUV, almost every curb is permit parking, and from December to March the weather decides the schedule. A security-trained driver is planned alongside the officer, the vehicle is sized to the streets and the month, and the late drive back from the Seaport or the North End receives particular attention.

Is Boston safe for wealthy visitors?

Yes. Boston is one of the safest large cities in America and violent crime against visitors is rare. The real risks are the documented ones: the street disorder around Downtown Crossing, the stations and the troubled blocks near the medical area, pickpocketing on the Freedom Trail and at the markets, the fraud that targets international patients and the exposure of a student from a known family, burglary at secluded suburban and island houses, and a winter and a Marathon Monday that turn the walk from a door to a vehicle into the exposure. For a wealthy visitor, private protection adds the layer that the police are not designed to provide: someone close, watching the approaches, and managing the movement.

How quickly can you mobilise in Boston?

Seven days is the minimum we ask for, and more is better. Inside that week the brief is vetted, the right officer is assigned and released from other work, and the advance work on the hotel, the hospital buildings, the campus approaches and the routes is done properly. We will always look at shorter notice, but under 48 hours is an urgency case: it carries additional fees and it cannot be guaranteed. Nobody produces a licensed officer in 24 hours. Around commencement, Marathon week and the summer on the Cape we advise booking well ahead, because the city’s best officers are committed early.

Do you handle arrivals at Logan, Hanscom and Norwood?

Yes, and we recommend it. At Logan we track the inbound live, meet inside the terminal, handle and count the luggage, stage a vehicle so the curbside moment barely exists and choose the tunnel for the destination rather than the habit. Principals arriving by private aircraft use Hanscom Field, New England’s principal business aviation airport north-west of the city, which avoids the harbour crossings altogether, or Norwood Memorial for the south-west; at each the handling agents work the ramp and the aircraft steps are a few metres from the vehicle. Our coordinator speaks to your ground handler directly rather than through you.

Do you provide residence and hotel security in the Back Bay, Brookline, Wellesley and on the islands?

Yes. Residence work is core to our Boston coverage: a review of building access or of gates, lighting and camera lines, household staff briefed, deliveries controlled, and a quiet protective presence from a single overnight to a standing detail. Suites at the Back Bay hotels, apartments in the Back Bay and the Seaport, houses on Beacon Hill, in Brookline, Chestnut Hill, Wellesley and Weston, and summer houses on Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, the Cape and in Newport are all surveyed before the first night, not after it.

Do you provide female officers for families and patients?

Yes. Female close protection officers are available and well suited to medical stays, family postings, school runs, commencement weekends and principals who prefer a female officer in close proximity. Availability is better with notice, so please raise it at the enquiry stage.

Do you cover Cape Cod, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Newport and the rest of New England?

Yes. The same team and the same point of contact follow the principal to the Cape and the islands by road, ferry or air, to Newport, the Berkshires and the Maine coast, and along the corridor to New York by road or by train, with the vehicle on the ferry or meeting the aircraft and the connection planned as one movement. For itineraries continuing to New York, Washington, Miami or London, the transition is managed inside Algoz. Please share the full itinerary when you enquire.

Can the client choose the officer profile?

Often, yes. Given lead time we offer a selection of profiles: a low-visibility officer who reads as a driver or an assistant at the hospital, a female officer for family or patient cover, an officer with university experience for a student, a driver-protector combination for the Cape and the corridor, or, with notice, an officer who speaks Arabic, Spanish or Portuguese. Whatever the preference, the security assessment carries final authority over the composition of the detail.
