What a Boston client gets from us, and what they do not.

Boston travels with a particular profile. Its principals run hospitals, biotech companies, asset managers and universities, and they travel to Europe for conferences, clinics, deals and board weeks where the exposure is a schedule that cannot slip and a name that should not be in the wrong lobby. Its families take Rome, Florence, Paris and London in the summer and the holidays. And it sends more students abroad for a semester than almost any city in the country, to Florence, Rome, Paris, Madrid and London, which is the booking Boston parents ask us about most. In none of these cases does a Massachusetts detail travel: no European country recognizes a Massachusetts license to carry, a watch-guard agency license or a US company's insurance.

What we do is deliver the standard through officers licensed where you land, from one desk, on Eastern time. For the executive: a licensed security driver in London, Paris, Geneva or Zurich, one coordinator across the trip, a proposal the compliance team can read. For the family: a licensed officer at the wheel of a van or an SUV for the Italian weeks, residential cover at the villa, a female officer where preferred. For the student: an arrival met, an apartment reviewed, a briefing written for the parents and the student, and a licensed officer on call for the semester without being in the dorm. A proposal in EUR with the USD beside it, the figure final. At home, the same desk coordinates licensed Massachusetts partners for Beacon Hill, Back Bay, Wellesley, the Cape and the Islands. Send the itinerary; a person reads it the same morning.

  • Officers licensed in each country you land in: SIA in the UK, CNAPS in France, GPG in Italy, Ministry of the Interior in Spain, licensed companies in Portugal, Switzerland and the Gulf
  • A security driver with an executive vehicle as the default Boston booking for London, Paris, Geneva and Zurich, with a second officer for events and the evenings
  • Students abroad: the arrival met, the apartment and the street reviewed, a written briefing for the parents and the student, a licensed officer on call for the semester
  • Medical travel: the clinic liaison, the quiet arrival, the car between the hotel and the appointment, and a plan the family does not have to manage
  • Replies on Eastern time, usually within two hours and always within 24; the overnight from Logan is tracked and the arrival planned around it
  • At home: licensed Massachusetts partners for Beacon Hill, Back Bay, Brookline, Wellesley, Weston, the Cape, Nantucket and the Vineyard, coordinated by the same desk
Straight Answers

What Boston clients ask before they book.

Legal

Can my Boston detail work in Europe?

As staff and advisors, yes. As protection, no. The UK, France, Italy, Spain and Switzerland each license officers locally and recognize no Massachusetts license to carry, watch-guard agency license or US insurance. Your head of security writes the plan with us; the licensed local officer carries it out.

Students

My daughter is in Florence for a semester. What can you do?

More than you expect and less than a bodyguard in the dorm. The arrival met and the apartment and its street reviewed; a written safety briefing for her and for you; the licensed Florence officer who did the review on call for the semester for a late night, a medical issue or a trip; and, for parents' weekend, a driver. Honest, proportionate, and the plan you can read at home.

Medical

We are traveling to Europe for treatment. Is that something you handle?

Yes, and quietly. The clinic liaison before arrival, the car between the hotel and the appointments, a licensed officer where the profile or the condition calls for one, and a plan the family does not have to manage in a week when they have other things to think about. Our medical travel protection page says more.

Cost

What does it cost in dollars?

Close protection in Western Europe starts from EUR 850 per day for one officer on a twelve-hour block, with the executive vehicle added; a student arrival and review is a fixed fee. The indicative USD figure appears beside every EUR figure for visitors from the US. The proposal is in EUR and the figure on it is final.

Hours

Will you answer on Eastern time?

Yes. A person reads every message and replies usually within two hours and always within 24, on Eastern time as well as European. A message from Wellesley at nine in the evening is answered the same night.

Home

Do you cover Boston itself?

Through licensed Massachusetts partners, yes: security drivers in Boston and Cambridge, residential cover in Beacon Hill, Back Bay, Brookline, Wellesley and Weston, the Cape, Nantucket and the Vineyard in season, and event work, through licensed watch, guard or patrol agencies with officers licensed to carry where the assessment and Massachusetts law allow. The same desk coordinates home and abroad.

Why the Boston detail stops at the jet bridge

A Massachusetts executive protection officer works for a licensed watch, guard or patrol agency, carries under a Massachusetts license to carry, and is insured by a Massachusetts company. None of that has standing in London, Paris, Rome, Madrid, Lisbon or Zurich. The United Kingdom licenses protection through the SIA and the police are entitled to ask; France through the CNAPS; Italy through Prefettura-authorized institutes; Spain under Law 5/2014; Portugal and Switzerland through licensed companies. A Boston agent working a Paris hotel lobby is unlicensed, uninsured and, if stopped, the reason a trip ends early. The model that works: your head of security keeps the strategy and writes the plan with us; we provide the officer who is legal, insured and English-speaking where you are. The standard travels. The license does not.

Students abroad: Florence, Rome, Paris, Madrid and London, and what parents actually need

Boston sends its children to Europe for a semester in numbers no other American city matches, and the question parents ask is not whether Florence is safe, which it is, but who they call at two in the morning Eastern time when a text does not come. The honest answer is proportionate. We meet the student at the airport and get them to the apartment. A licensed local officer reviews the apartment, the door, the street at night, the neighborhood and the route to class, and writes a briefing for the student and a separate one for the parents. That officer is then on call for the semester: a late night that went wrong, a medical issue, a weekend trip to a city the student does not know, parents' weekend with a driver. Not a bodyguard in the dorm, which no student will accept, and not nothing, which no parent should. Our student protection page describes the service.

Medicine and biotech: the conference, the clinic and the quiet week

Boston's hospitals and biotech companies send principals to Europe for conferences in London, Paris, Geneva, Barcelona and Copenhagen, and send patients and their families to clinics in Switzerland, Germany and London. The executive booking is a security driver who holds the schedule through a week of sessions, dinners and a city the principal does not know. The medical booking is quieter: the clinic liaison before arrival, the car between the hotel and the appointments, a licensed officer where the profile or the condition calls for one, and a plan the family does not have to run in a week when they have other things to think about. Both run from one desk, on Eastern time, with the discretion a medical week requires.

The family summer: Rome, Florence, Paris and London with children

New England families take Europe in July and at the holidays, with children, grandparents and luggage, and the booking is the one most Americans make: a licensed close protection officer at the wheel of a van or an SUV, for the arrival off the overnight from Logan, early entry at the Vatican and the Uffizi, the car held where a visitor cannot park, the group kept together in the crowds, and the ride home from dinner. For a villa in Tuscany or on Lake Como, residential cover with a night presence, a female officer if the family prefers one, and a driver who knows the road. Not a team, which a Boston family does not want and Europe does not need, and nothing armed, which Europe does not allow a visitor in any case.

The overnight from Logan, and the first hour on the ground

Boston flies nonstop to London, Paris, Rome, Lisbon, Dublin, Dubai and Doha, and the overnight lands at breakfast tired. The arrival hour is the one most trips get wrong: everyone carrying everything, a crowd offering taxis, the hotel not yet ready. We track the flight from departure, meet you inside the terminal, count the luggage onto the car, walk you past the touts and drive you to a hotel whose security already knows a car is coming. For a Boston executive with a nine o'clock session it is the session; for a Wellesley family off the overnight with three children and six bags it is the week; for a student arriving alone in Florence it is the first evening abroad, and the one the parents are thinking about.

At home: Beacon Hill, Wellesley, the Cape and the Islands, from the same desk

A family that works in London, summers in Italy, has a child in Florence and lives in Wellesley does not want four security relationships. For the weeks in Massachusetts we coordinate licensed partners: security drivers in Boston and Cambridge, residential cover in Beacon Hill, Back Bay, Brookline, Wellesley, Weston and Dover, the Cape, Nantucket and the Vineyard in season, and event and gala work, through licensed watch, guard or patrol agencies with officers licensed to carry where the assessment and Massachusetts law allow. The desk that set up your daughter's semester knows your family, your staff and your standard, and the Boston work runs to the same written plan. Our Boston chauffeur page describes the home service.

How It Works

Itinerary, plan, officers, arrival, report.

Step 01

The itinerary

Dates, cities, party, profile, whether it is a working week, a family trip, a semester or a clinic. Under NDA from the first message, answered on Eastern time.

Step 02

The written plan

Licensed company and officers in each country, vehicles, routes, hotel, clinic or apartment liaison, escalation chain, and one figure in EUR with the USD beside it. For a student, a briefing for the parents and one for the student.

Step 03

Officers matched

Licensed where they work, English-speaking, selected for the trip: a security driver for the conference, a family officer for Italy, the officer who reviewed the apartment on call for the semester.

Step 04

The arrival

The overnight from Logan tracked, met inside the terminal, the car at the door, the hotel, clinic or apartment already briefed.

Step 05

The program

One coordinator across every country and every week, officers handing over at each border, the plan held when the schedule moves, the student's officer reachable at two in the morning Eastern.

Step 06

Report

A short written account at the end for your file, your head of security's or, for a semester, the parents', if you want one. Then nothing: no newsletter, no follow-up calls.

Excellence, Discreetly Delivered

Good to Know

Executive Protection for Boston Clients - Frequently Asked Questions

Can my Boston security detail work in Europe?

Not as protection. The UK, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Switzerland each license officers locally and recognize no Massachusetts license to carry, watch-guard agency license or US insurance. Your team can travel as staff and advise; the licensed local officer carries out the plan your head of security helped write.

My child is studying abroad in Florence, Rome, Paris or Madrid. What do you offer parents?

A proportionate plan: the student met at the airport and taken to the apartment, the apartment, door, street and route to class reviewed by a licensed local officer, a written briefing for the student and a separate one for the parents, and that officer on call for the semester for a late night, a medical issue or a weekend trip. Not a bodyguard in the dorm. See our student protection page.

Do you handle medical travel to European clinics?

Yes, quietly: the clinic liaison before arrival, the car between the hotel and the appointments, a licensed officer where the profile or the condition calls for one, and a plan the family does not have to run. See our medical travel protection page.

How much does executive protection in Europe cost a Boston client in dollars?

Close protection in Italy, France, Spain and the UK starts from EUR 850 per day for one officer on a twelve-hour block, with the vehicle added; a student arrival and review is a fixed fee. An indicative USD figure appears beside every EUR figure for visitors from the US. The proposal and invoice are in EUR and the proposal figure is final; American Express is accepted.

Do you reply on Eastern time?

Yes. A person reads every message and replies usually within two hours and always within 24, on Eastern time as well as European. For a student on call, the licensed local officer is reachable at any hour, including two in the morning Eastern.

Do you meet the overnight flights from Logan?

Every one. London, Paris, Rome, Lisbon, Dublin, Dubai and Doha are nonstop from Boston. The flight is tracked from departure, the officer waits inside the terminal, the luggage is counted onto the car and the hotel or apartment has been told a car is coming.

What does a New England family book for a European summer?

A licensed close protection officer at the wheel of a van or an SUV for Rome, Florence, Paris or London: the arrival off the overnight, early entry at the museums, the car where a visitor cannot park, the group kept together and the ride home. For a villa, residential cover and a female officer if preferred. Not a team, and nothing armed.

Can I hire an armed bodyguard in Europe?

Rarely and almost never usefully. The UK does not allow armed private protection; Italy, France and Spain allow it only through specific licensed channels with weeks of notice and no guarantee. Most Boston trips are covered unarmed, by design, and correctly.

Do you cover Boston, the Cape and the Islands?

Yes, through licensed Massachusetts partners: security drivers in Boston and Cambridge, residential cover in Beacon Hill, Back Bay, Brookline, Wellesley, Weston and Dover, the Cape, Nantucket and the Vineyard in season, and event work, through licensed watch, guard or patrol agencies with officers licensed to carry where the assessment and Massachusetts law allow, coordinated by the same desk that runs your travel.

How much notice do you need?

Seven days as a minimum for a trip, and more for a semester set-up, which is best arranged in July or December before the student flies. Under 48 hours is an urgency case with an additional fee and no guarantee of cover.
