Executive Protection for Washington DC Clients, Abroad and at Home
What a Washington client gets from us, and what they do not.
Washington travels with two profiles. The first is the former official, the ambassador, the senator, the cabinet member, the general, the contractor executive or the think-tank president: recognized in some rooms and not others, with a name that carries weight at a European ministry and attention at a London restaurant, and a schedule that touches official venues where access is arranged in advance rather than negotiated at the door. The second is the family in McLean, Potomac, Georgetown or Chevy Chase that takes Rome, Paris and London in the summer and the holidays and wants a car that is there and a plan that holds. In neither case does the Washington detail travel: no European, Gulf or African country recognizes a DC Security Officers Management Branch license, a Virginia or Maryland registration, a federal credential that has lapsed or a US company's insurance.
What we do is deliver the standard through officers licensed where you land, from one desk, on Eastern time, with the protocol understood. For the official profile: a licensed, protocol-aware security driver in London, Paris, Brussels, Geneva, Rome or Rabat, liaison with the venue and, where appropriate, the embassy, one coordinator across the trip and a proposal a security director can read. For the family: a licensed officer at the wheel of a van or an SUV for the Italian weeks, residential cover at the villa, a female officer where preferred. A proposal in EUR with the USD beside it, the figure final. At home, the same desk coordinates licensed DC, Virginia and Maryland partners. Send the itinerary; a person reads it the same morning.
- Officers licensed in each country you land in: SIA in the UK, CNAPS in France, GPG in Italy, Ministry of the Interior in Spain, Law 27-06 in Morocco, licensed companies in Belgium, Switzerland, the Gulf and Africa
- Protocol-aware: access to ministries, embassies and official residences arranged in advance, vehicles directed rather than parked, the courtesies around timing and introductions known
- Former officials and recognizable names kept quiet: one officer dressed for the setting, the hotel briefed on the name, the table out of the window line, never a visible team
- Replies on Eastern time, usually within two hours and always within 24; the overnight from Dulles is tracked and the arrival planned around it
- Proposal in EUR with an indicative USD figure beside it; payment by card including American Express, or transfer; the proposal figure is final
- At home: licensed partners under DC SOMB, Virginia DCJS and Maryland rules for Georgetown, Kalorama, McLean, Great Falls, Potomac and Chevy Chase, coordinated by the same desk
What Washington clients ask before they book.
Can my Washington detail work abroad?
As staff and advisors, yes. As protection, no. Every European, Gulf and African country licenses officers locally and recognizes no DC, Virginia or Maryland license, no lapsed federal credential and no US insurance. Your security director writes the plan with us; the licensed local officer carries it out.
Do you understand official visits?
Yes, and it is the reason Washington clients use us. Access to a ministry, an embassy or an official residence is arranged in advance rather than negotiated at the door, vehicles are directed rather than parked, and the courtesies around timing, seniority and introductions matter more than anywhere else. The driver knows where he is permitted to hold; the officer knows when to be invisible.
I used to be in government. Am I a target?
Rarely in Western Europe, and we say so. The honest exposure for a former official is attention: a name recognized in a London restaurant, a photograph from the wrong table, an approach at a conference. One licensed officer dressed for the setting, the hotel briefed on the name and the entrance, and a table out of the window line answer it. A visible team creates the attention it is meant to prevent.
What does it cost in dollars?
Close protection in Western Europe starts from EUR 850 per day for one officer on a twelve-hour block, with the executive vehicle added; Gulf and African bases are confirmed on inquiry. The indicative USD figure appears beside every EUR figure for visitors from the US. The proposal is in EUR and the figure on it is final.
Will you answer on Eastern time?
Yes. A person reads every message and replies usually within two hours and always within 24, on Eastern time as well as European. A message from McLean at nine in the evening is answered the same night.
Do you cover Washington itself?
Through licensed partners, yes: officers licensed by the DC Security Officers Management Branch, registered with Virginia DCJS and licensed in Maryland, for security drivers in the District, residential cover in Georgetown, Kalorama, McLean, Great Falls, Potomac and Chevy Chase, and event work, armed where the assessment and local law allow. The same desk coordinates home and abroad.

Why the Washington detail stops at the jet bridge
A Washington executive protection officer is licensed by the DC Security Officers Management Branch, registered with Virginia DCJS or licensed in Maryland, often carries a federal background and a lapsed credential, and works for a licensed company with US insurance. None of that has standing in London, Paris, Brussels, Rome, Rabat, Dubai or Nairobi. The United Kingdom licenses protection through the SIA and the police are entitled to ask; France through the CNAPS; Italy through Prefettura-authorized institutes; Spain under Law 5/2014; Morocco under Law 27-06; Belgium, Switzerland, the Gulf states and the African capitals through licensed local companies under their interior ministries. A Washington agent working a Paris hotel lobby is unlicensed, uninsured and, if stopped, the reason a trip ends early. The model that works: your security director keeps the strategy and writes the plan with us; we provide the officer who is legal, insured and English-speaking where you are. The standard travels. The license does not.
Executive protection in Europe for US clientsProtocol: ministries, embassies and official residences, in Europe and in Rabat
A large share of Washington programs touch a ministry, an embassy, an official residence or a conference with a government on the invitation, and those venues run to their own rules. Access is arranged in advance rather than negotiated at the gate, vehicles are directed rather than parked, and the courtesies around timing, seniority and introductions matter more than anywhere else. The work is administrative before it is protective: credentials submitted in time and in the right form, a driver who knows where he is permitted to hold, an interpreter where the meeting needs one, and a schedule that respects how official days actually run. Our Rabat page describes this for Morocco; the same discipline applies in Brussels, Geneva, Paris, London and the Gulf, and our local partners are chosen for it.
Concierge and protocol in RabatThe former official: recognized in some rooms, and how to keep it to those rooms
An ambassador, a senator, a cabinet member or a general is recognized at a European ministry and at a London policy dinner, and anonymous at a Roman trattoria, and would like it to stay that way. The exposure in Western Europe is attention rather than threat: a name recognized in the wrong restaurant, a photograph from a window table, an unsolicited approach at a conference, a journalist who knew the hotel. The plan treats it that way: one licensed officer dressed for the setting, usually at the wheel, never a visible team; the hotel briefed on who may know the name and which entrance the car uses; the table out of the window line; the itinerary shared with the licensed partner on a need-to-know basis; and nothing kept by us afterwards beyond the invoice. For the small number of former officials whose threat picture is real, the plan is written with their security director and is a different document.
Bodyguard in LondonThe Gulf and Africa: where Washington works and the officer earns the fee
Washington's contractors, policy institutions and development organizations travel to the Gulf and to Africa in a way no other American city does, and the two regions want different things. The Gulf is safe, formal and built for protocol: licensed officers and security drivers in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and Riyadh with the paperwork and the courtesies known, and a schedule that holds across a city built for cars. Africa is where a licensed local officer with a vetted driver and an appropriate vehicle is the honest answer: Rabat and Cairo are calm and want a driver and protocol; Nairobi, Lagos and Accra want the officer, the plan for the airport road and the hotel, and a coordinator who knows the city that week. Both regions run from the same desk as Europe, as one program when the trip spans them.
Bodyguard in CairoThe family summer: Rome, Florence, Paris and London with children
Washington families take Europe in July and at the holidays, with children, grandparents and luggage, and the booking is the one most Americans make: a licensed close protection officer at the wheel of a van or an SUV, for the arrival off the overnight from Dulles, early entry at the Vatican and the Louvre, the car held where a visitor cannot park, the group kept together in the crowds, and the ride home from dinner. For a villa in Tuscany or on Lake Como, residential cover with a night presence, a female officer if the family prefers one, and a driver who knows the road. For a family whose name is known in Washington, the hotel is briefed and the plan is quiet; for everyone else, it is simply a good week. Nothing armed, which Europe does not allow a visitor in any case.
Is Rome safe for American tourists? At home: Georgetown, Kalorama, McLean and Potomac, from the same desk
A family that works in the Gulf, summers in Italy and lives in McLean or Kalorama does not want three security relationships. For the weeks in Washington we coordinate licensed partners under DC Security Officers Management Branch, Virginia DCJS and Maryland rules: security drivers in the District, residential cover in Georgetown, Kalorama, Spring Valley, McLean, Great Falls, Potomac and Chevy Chase, event and gala work, and armed officers where the assessment and local law allow. The desk that planned your Brussels week knows your family, your staff and your standard, and the Washington work runs to the same written plan. Our Washington DC chauffeur page describes the home service.

What executive protection abroad costs a Washington client.
Professional close protection in Italy, France, Spain and the UK starts from EUR 850 per day for a single principal on twelve-hour cover, the market base, with the executive vehicle added as its own line; Belgian, Swiss, Moroccan, Gulf and African bases are confirmed on inquiry, with armored vehicles quoted to the assessment where the city calls for them. A protocol-aware security driver with a car is the default Washington booking; protocol and accreditation work for official venues, a second officer, residential cover by the night and the holiday resorts sit above the base; a multi-country program receives one figure. The indicative USD figure appears beside each EUR figure for visitors from the US; the proposal and the invoice are in EUR and the proposal figure is final.
Allow seven days, and more for official programs where access is arranged rather than assumed; under 48 hours carries an urgency fee and no guarantee. Payment by card, including American Express, or by transfer, invoiced by Algoz FZ-LLC. See also what a bodyguard costs in US dollars and executive protection in Europe for US clients.
