Why a Lake Como wedding needs its own security plan.

The villas of Lake Como are the most photographed wedding venues in Europe, and that is the problem to solve. Villa del Balbianello, Villa Erba, Villa Balbiano, Villa Pizzo, Villa Sola Cabiati and the great hotels of Cernobbio, Tremezzo and Bellagio sit on a public lake, reachable by any boat, overlooked from the road, and known to every photographer in Lombardy. A wedding with a recognisable name or a visible budget attracts the uninvited by water, by road and from the air, and the gate that the planner counted on is one gate among several.

Algoz coordinates wedding security on Lake Como through Prefettura-authorised security institutes whose sworn GPG officers control the villa access, screen the guest list, hold the jetty and the waterfront, manage the photographers and the drones, protect the couple and the guests who need protecting, and cover the villa the night before and the morning after. One coordinator works with the planner, the venue and, where needed, the local police, and nobody at the wedding notices any of it.

  • Guest list and access control at the villa gate, the jetty and the service entrance, with wristbands or discreet verification as the couple prefers
  • Jetty, pontoon and waterfront control: private boats directed, uninvited boats kept at a distance the venue and the law allow
  • Photographers who were not invited identified on the road, on the water and at the hotels, and kept where they belong
  • Drones: the venue's rules and the Italian regulations applied, the police informed where an unauthorised flight continues
  • Close protection for the couple and for guests with a profile, from the Milan arrival to the last boat
  • Residential cover at the villa and the couple's house the night before, during the set-up and after the last guest leaves
Straight Answers

What couples and planners ask about wedding security on Lake Como.

Need

Does our wedding need security?

A wedding with a recognisable name, a public guest, a visible budget or a family concern does. A quiet wedding of sixty friends usually does not, and we will say so. The question to ask is who would want a photograph, and what it would be worth to them.

Cost

What it costs

Wedding security is quoted per officer per day, from EUR 850, with the number of officers set by the venue, the guest list and the profile. A two-day plan for a villa wedding is a written figure, not a rate card. No obligation.

Legal

Who provides the officers

Under the TULPS, private security in Italy is delivered through Prefettura-authorised institutes and their sworn GPG officers. Algoz coordinates, briefs and supervises; the licence, the insurance and the officers are Italian and licensed. Nobody is hired from a directory.

Visible

Will guests notice?

Only if you want them to. Officers in suits, positioned where the plan puts them, with the gate and the jetty handled by people who look like staff. The couple and the planner know where everyone is; the guests see a wedding.

Water

What about the lake?

The lake is public and cannot be closed. What can be done is to hold the venue's own jetty and pontoon, direct the guest boats, keep uninvited boats at the distance the venue and the law allow, and watch the water as carefully as the road.

Notice

How far ahead

The plan is written with the planner months out, because the villa, the boats and the officers are committed early in wedding season. A late request is looked at honestly; under 48 hours is not a wedding plan.

What We Provide

Wedding security services on Lake Como.

Access

Villa Access and Guest Screening

The gate, the service entrance and the jetty held against the guest list, suppliers and staff verified, and the one uninvited guest turned away without a scene.

Water

Jetty and Waterfront Control

Guest boats directed, the pontoon held, the lake watched, and uninvited boats kept at the distance the venue and the law allow, in coordination with the water taxi operators.

Press

Photographers and Drones

Uninvited photographers identified on the road, at the hotels and on the water; drones handled under the venue's rules and Italian regulation, with the police informed where a flight continues.

Protection

Close Protection for the Couple and Guests

Officers for the couple from the Milan arrival to the last boat, and for guests with a public profile, briefed to the programme and invisible in the photographs.

Residential

Villa Cover Before and After

The venue during the set-up, the couple's villa the night before, the dress, the jewellery and the gifts, and the morning after when the staff are tired and the gate is open.

Movement

Guest Fleet and Protected Arrivals

Guests collected at Malpensa and the Milan hotels, staged arrivals at a villa with one gate, boats for the water guests, and late departures across a lake where taxis thin out.

01 —

The villa: one gate on the map, several in practice

A Lake Como villa is drawn with a gate on the road, and that is where the planner puts the welcome table. In practice it also has a service entrance for the caterers, a jetty for the boats, a garden wall that a determined person can climb, and a neighbouring property whose terrace overlooks the ceremony. The security plan starts with a walk of the whole perimeter with the venue manager, and ends with every one of those entrances either held or watched for the hours that matter.

02 —

The water: a public lake and a private jetty

Lake Como cannot be closed and every boat on it has the right to be there. The venue's jetty and pontoon are private, the guest boats can be directed, and uninvited boats can be kept at a distance the venue and the law allow, which is the whole of what honest wedding security on the water can promise. We coordinate with the water taxi operators the couple has booked, position an officer at the jetty for the arrivals and the departures, and watch the water during the ceremony as carefully as the road.

03 —

Photographers, drones and the hotels

For a wedding with a name, the uninvited photographers arrive before the guests do: at the Milan hotels, on the lake road, on hired boats and, increasingly, in the air. The plan identifies them early, keeps them off the property and away from the jetty, and deals with a drone under the venue's rules and Italian aviation regulation, which restricts flights over people and private property without authorisation. Where a flight continues, the police are informed; where it does not, the ceremony continues.

Celebrity close protection
04 —

The couple and the guests who need protecting

A wedding is a day when the couple cannot look over their shoulder and should not have to. Close protection for the couple runs from the Milan arrival to the last boat, with officers who know the programme, the venue and the faces, and who are never in the photographs. Guests with a public profile receive the same, briefed into the plan rather than arriving with their own detail that cannot legally work in Italy. A US guest's home team is welcome; the officers on the ground are ours.

05 —

The night before, the morning after

The most exposed hours of a wedding are not the ceremony. They are the set-up day, when the villa is full of suppliers and the gate is propped open; the night before, when the dress, the rings and the gifts are in a house whose staff are asleep; and the morning after, when everyone is tired and the lake is empty. Residential cover at the venue and the couple's villa over those hours is the part of the plan that produces nothing to tell and is worth the most.

Villas and property rental
06 —

Guest movement: Malpensa to the jetty

A hundred guests from Malpensa and the Milan hotels to a villa with one gate, across a lake where taxis stop early, is a logistics exercise that becomes a security one the moment a stranger joins the queue. We stage the fleet, hold the guests at a point near the villa, deliver them in waves to the gate or the jetty, check them against the list as they arrive, and bring them home late in the same order. The couple's own transfer is planned separately and arrives when it should.

Working with the planner, the venue and the police

Wedding security that works is invisible to the guests and completely visible to the planner. We write the plan with the planner and the venue manager, agree every position, every radio channel and every decision in advance, and brief the local police where the profile warrants it, which on Lake Como they appreciate. The planner keeps the day; we keep the perimeter. On the night, the only sign that anything was planned is that nothing happened.

How a Lake Como wedding security plan is built

It starts with the guest list and the venue, not with a headcount of officers. We read who is coming, who might want a photograph of them, where the villa is exposed and when, and write a plan that covers the set-up, the night before, the ceremony, the reception and the departure. The number of officers follows from the plan. The planner gets a document; the couple gets a conversation; the venue gets a walk-through. One coordinator from the first call to the last boat.

Como by Season

When wedding security on the lake needs more notice.

April and May

The season opens

The first wedding weekends, the villas reopening, and the officers who know the venues committed from now on. Plans written now for June are plans with the right people.

June

The peak begins

Long evenings, the lake at its most beautiful and busiest, every villa booked every weekend. Boats and water taxis go early; so do the officers.

July and August

Full lake

Heat, crowds, the lake road at one lane, and visitors on every boat. The waterfront plan matters most now.

September

The best month

Warm water, calmer roads, Fashion Week in Milan at the end of it. The most requested wedding month on the lake and the earliest to sell out.

October

Golden light

Quiet, beautiful and still popular with couples who know. Fog mornings at Malpensa; the guest fleet is timed for it.

Winter

Private and rare

A winter wedding on an empty lake is the most private kind. Some venues close; the ones that open are easier to hold.

How It Works

Guest list, venue, plan, officers, the day.

Step 01

The brief

The venue, the dates, the guest list and who on it has a profile, the planner's programme, and anything the family already knows. Under NDA from the first message.

Step 02

The walk-through

The venue with its manager: gates, jetty, service entrance, overlooks and the water. Where the wedding is exposed and when.

Step 03

The written plan

Positions, numbers, radios, the guest fleet, the boats, the drone and photographer procedure, the police liaison, the night before and the morning after. Agreed with the planner.

Step 04

Officers matched

Sworn GPG officers from a Prefettura-authorised institute, chosen for the venue and the guests: a female officer for the bridal party, a security driver for the couple, the jetty officer who knows boats.

Step 05

The days

Set-up, the night before, arrivals, ceremony, reception, departures, the morning after. The coordinator with the planner throughout.

Step 06

Afterwards

A short report if the family wants one. Then nothing, which is the point.

Excellence, Discreetly Delivered

“The best wedding security on Lake Como is the kind nobody at the wedding can describe afterwards.”

Algoz Group
Indicative Investment

What wedding security on Lake Como costs.

Wedding security is quoted per officer per day, from EUR 850, the Italian close protection base, with the number of officers set by the venue, the guest list and the profile rather than by a formula, and confirmed in writing on enquiry with no obligation. A villa wedding typically needs cover on the set-up day, the night before and the wedding day itself, and the plan is priced as one figure for the whole programme.

Guest transport, boats and residential cover at a separate villa are quoted alongside, so that the couple and the planner see one number. Under 48 hours' notice is not a wedding plan and we will say so. Payment by card or transfer, invoiced by Algoz FZ-LLC. See also bodyguard in Lake Como and destination weddings.

For Clients Arriving from the US

Your US security detail cannot work in Lake Como. Ours can.

Licensing

Why your home team stops at the border

Italy licenses personal protection through Prefettura-authorised security institutes under the TULPS, and the officer on the ground is a sworn Guardia Particolare Giurata. A US executive protection agent, however good, has no standing to work in Lake Como, cannot be insured for it, and would put the principal at risk of a stop that ends the visit. What we do instead: an officer licensed here, briefed by us against your itinerary, who works alongside your security director rather than replacing them.

Standards

Officers who work the way your US team does

English-speaking as standard, insured through the licensed institute that employs them, NDA-bound, and run to the same advance, arrival and departure discipline a US executive protection team expects. Your security director gets a named coordinator and a written plan before anyone arrives, and the officer reports to that plan, not around it.

Practicalities

Car plus officer, and a reply on your clock

Most US visits are best covered by one security-trained driver with an executive vehicle, adding a second officer for events, show weeks and evenings out. Rates are quoted in EUR, with an indicative USD figure alongside for visitors from outside Europe. A person reads every message and replies, usually within two hours and always within 24, on Eastern and Pacific hours as well as ours.

Good to Know

Lake Como Wedding Security - Frequently Asked Questions

How much does wedding security on Lake Como cost?

It is quoted per officer per day, from EUR 850, the Italian close protection base, with the number of officers set by the venue, the guest list and the profile. A villa wedding usually needs the set-up day, the night before and the wedding day, priced as one written figure for the whole programme, with no obligation.

Does our wedding actually need security?

If a name on the guest list, a public guest, a visible budget or a family concern would make a photograph worth something to a stranger, yes. A quiet wedding of friends usually does not, and we will tell you so rather than sell you officers.

Who are the officers, and are they licensed?

Sworn GPG officers from a Prefettura-authorised security institute, as Italian law under the TULPS requires for private security. Algoz coordinates, briefs and supervises; the licence, the insurance and the officers are Italian and licensed. We can show the planner the paperwork before the day.

Will the security be visible to our guests?

Only if you want it to be. Officers in suits where the plan puts them, the gate and the jetty handled by people who look like staff, and nothing in the photographs. The couple and the planner know where everyone is.

Can you keep uninvited photographers away?

Off the property, off the jetty and away from the arrivals, yes. On a public lake and a public road nobody can promise more than that honestly, which is why the plan identifies them early at the hotels and on the water and keeps the exposed moments short.

What about drones over the villa?

Italian regulation restricts flights over people and private property without authorisation, and the venues have their own rules. We apply both, locate the operator where possible, and inform the police where a flight continues. The ceremony continues either way.

Can you control boats on the lake?

The lake is public and cannot be closed. The venue's own jetty and pontoon are held, guest boats are directed, and uninvited boats are kept at the distance the venue and the law allow, in coordination with the water taxi operators you have booked.

Do you protect the couple as well as the venue?

Yes. Close protection for the couple from the Milan arrival to the last boat, with officers who know the programme and are never in the photographs. Guests with a public profile receive the same, briefed into the one plan.

We are flying in from the United States with our own security team. Can they work the wedding?

They can attend and advise, and we welcome them into the plan, but they cannot act as protection officers in Italy: the law reserves that to licensed GPG officers. Our officers do the work on the ground and report to the plan your team helped write.

Can you cover the villa the night before and the morning after?

Yes, and it is the part of the plan we recommend most. The set-up day with suppliers and an open gate, the night with the dress, the rings and the gifts in a sleeping house, and the morning after when everyone is tired are the exposed hours.

Do you also handle guest transport to the venue?

Yes. Guests collected at Malpensa and the Milan hotels, staged near the villa, delivered in waves to the gate or the jetty and checked against the list, and brought home late across a lake where taxis stop early. The couple's own transfer is planned separately.

How far ahead should we book wedding security?

Months, with the planner, because the officers who know the Como venues and the boats are committed early in the season. We look at later requests honestly; under 48 hours is not a wedding plan.

Do you work with our wedding planner and the venue?

Always. The plan is written with the planner and the venue manager, every position and procedure is agreed in advance, and where the profile warrants it the local police are briefed. The planner keeps the day; we keep the perimeter.

Which Lake Como venues have you worked at?

Villa del Balbianello, Villa Erba, Villa Balbiano, Villa Pizzo, Villa Sola Cabiati, Villa d'Este, Grand Hotel Tremezzo, Villa Serbelloni and the private villas of Cernobbio, Laglio, Tremezzo and Bellagio, and the same model on Lake Garda, in Tuscany, on the Amalfi Coast and in Puglia. We do not name clients, ever.
