Bodyguard in the Canary Islands

One standard across eight islands.
An archipelago, not a city

Protection that crosses the water with you.

The Canaries are unlike any other Spanish deployment: eight islands a thousand kilometres from the mainland, moving clients between villas, resorts, yachts and inter-island flights, with each island keeping its own geography and rhythm. Protection here is a logistics discipline as much as a security one.

Algoz coordinates licensed Spanish teams across the whole archipelago, from Tenerife’s resort coast and Gran Canaria’s capital to Lanzarote’s villa country and the quiet of La Gomera, so a family’s island-hopping itinerary keeps one plan, one standard and one point of contact throughout, integrated with our island concierge programme.

Spanish Licensing (Ley 5/2014)

Why protection in the Canaries must be licensed.

The Canary Islands are Spanish territory, and mainland rules apply in full: private security is governed by Ley 5/2014 de Seguridad Privada, and a personal protection officer (escolta privado) must hold the official professional card (TIP) issued by the Ministry of the Interior. Armed escort is permitted only for accredited escoltas under strict conditions and is uncommon for private clients.

Algoz coordinates protection across the islands exclusively through this licensed framework, with every operative TIP-accredited, NDA-bound and discreet. See how our close protection works, start from our Tenerife protection page, add island concierge and secure transport, or extend to Madrid and Marbella.

Indicative Investment

What protection in the Canaries costs.

As a guide, professional close protection in Spain is, in 2026, typically USD 550–850 per day for a single principal on twelve-hour cover, with the final rate confirmed on enquiry and no obligation. Multi-island itineraries, specialist profiles, short-notice mobilisation and Carnival or peak winter season carry a premium. Read our full close protection pricing guide, how a security driver works, and how modern close protection is run.

Protecting celebrities & public figures

Actors, musicians, athletes, royals and the people the world recognises — celebrity protection is its own discipline: anti-paparazzi strategy, leak-proof operations, crowd and stalker management, and details that switch from red carpet to invisible in the same day.

Good to Know

Bodyguard in the Canary Islands: Frequently Asked Questions

Why use Algoz rather than hiring a local security agency in the Canaries directly?

Because vetting an unknown local agency yourself is where the real risk lies, and in an archipelago you would need to vet one on every island. Algoz knows the Canary Islands market: we have already worked with these providers, vetted them and kept only the best on each island. Engage us and we select the right teams for your profile, brief them under NDA and supervise them against one standard across your whole itinerary, with one accountable point of contact who owns the outcome.

Is it legal to hire a bodyguard in the Canary Islands?

Yes. The Canaries are Spanish territory, so Ley 5/2014 de Seguridad Privada applies: a personal protection officer (escolta privado) must hold the official TIP card from the Ministry of the Interior. Algoz coordinates only accredited Spanish escoltas, under NDA.

Which islands do you cover?

All eight: Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro and La Graciosa, with teams pre-positioned ahead of multi-island itineraries so cover never breaks between islands.

Can protection follow us as we move between islands?

Yes. That continuity is the core of our Canaries service: one plan and one supervising contact, with licensed teams, vehicles and marina arrangements pre-positioned on each island before you arrive by boat, helicopter or inter-island flight.

Can you coordinate yacht and marina security?

Yes. For owners and charters calling at Santa Cruz, Las Palmas or the southern marinas, including Atlantic-crossing stopovers, we manage marina access, tender operations and crew liaison alongside land-based protection.

Do you cover the carnivals of Santa Cruz and Las Palmas?

Yes. Both carnivals fill their cities for weeks: we plan movement around closures, hold balconies and gala seating, and run low-profile details sized to the crowds. Carnival deployments require early notice.

Are your operatives licensed in Spain?

Yes. All operational execution is carried out by partners holding the required Spanish private-security licensing, fluent in English and Spanish with further languages on request.

Can the client choose the bodyguard they prefer?

In many cases, yes. Given sufficient notice, and provided the request can be accommodated without compromising safety, the client may select the profile of the operative, and in most engagements is offered this choice. It cannot, however, override our professional security assessment, which always takes precedence.
