Mayfair, Knightsbridge & Belgravia
London’s prime residential ground is smaller than visitors expect and far more particular than a map suggests. Mayfair is the working centre of it: Mount Street and Grosvenor Square for the houses and apartments, Berkeley Square for the offices behind them, and the hotels on Brook Street and Carlos Place that many principals treat as a London address rather than a stay. Knightsbridge is the shopping and family quarter, with Sloane Street and the Brompton Road along its spine and long lets a short walk from Hyde Park. Belgravia is the quietest of the three and the one families choose when they intend to stay: garden squares, private mews and a rhythm that barely changes between seasons.
We treat all three as residential work rather than as bookings. The English Season, month by month
The Season is a calendar, and in London it is also a lead-time problem. It opens in earnest with the Chelsea Flower Show at the Royal Hospital in late May, moves to Royal Ascot in June, and reaches its most contested fortnight when Wimbledon begins at the end of June. Farnborough, Biggin Hill & the London arrival
Most London itineraries are decided by the arrival. Farnborough in Hampshire is the dedicated business aviation airport and the usual choice for principals heading west of the city or into the country. Biggin Hill sits to the south east and is the shortest run into Mayfair when the roads behave. Luton carries a large share of the private traffic north of London, London City puts a principal in the Docklands and, in the right conditions, closer to the City than any of them, and Northolt is used where the operator holds the approval.
